Hostess has announced that it is making good on its threat and planning to close all 33 factories that make their products.
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The company that makes iconic childhood treats like Twinkies and Ding Dongs is shutting down and some local employees will lose their jobs.
That includes the factory in Henderson.
Hostess Brands has been dealing with a worker strike by its bakers that has crippled its ability to make and deliver its products.
The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union represents about 5,000 workers.
The company gave workers until last night to agree to a deal.
But, they did not, and Hostess announced early this morning that it would lay off all 18,000 of its workers.
The company plans to go to a bankruptcy judge and ask for permission to shut down and sell off its assets to the highest bidder.
The privately-held company based in Irving, Texas, had filed for Chapter 11 protection in January -- it's second trip to bankruptcy court in the last 10 years.
There is no word yet on how long that will take.
Hostess Brands makes such favorites as Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Wonder Bread and other treats.
There is a chance that someone could step in and continue making the favorite treats.
There are also 565 distribution centers nationwide and 570 outlet stores.
