August is known for its sell-offs and Thursday marked the second sell-off in a week.
It was the second biggest sell-off this year for both the S&P and the Dow.
Selling starting in the morning and a mid-morning rally attempt fizzled out.
Buyers then moved lower and stocks followed them. Volume was light considering how big the drop was.


Anh LD - this is for U : Remember that this is a drop not the start of a big correction, just a pullback in my opinion.
I am expecting that we could see another day or even two days of selling with bounce attempts probably mixed in and then a better recovery attempt.

Smell like a manipulation .... of crooks. I agreed, it is not a correction YET! We are talking about minus 10 -15 % because of the fact, the market is over-priced.

Outlook for Mon Aug 21 2017


For the S&P, Volume rose by 300 million shares on Friday but the close was down by just 4.46 points.
New highs on Friday rose from 15 on Thursday to 39. New lows also rose however, from 143 to 166.
The loss for the week was slight at just 15.77 points but it is the second week in a row of losses for the S&P.

On the other hand, Volume on the NASDAQ was lower by 100 million shares on Friday.
Also, note how new highs are Up, volume is back rising from the prior week as are the number of stocks that are advancing.
Meanwhile the number of stocks declining is falling, and the amount of down volume is also falling from the prior week, but so are new lows.

There is a strong possibility the market may try to stabilize at the start of the week and Monday could end positive.
No matter what happens on Monday, it will take Tuesday and probably Wednesday before we will get a clearer picture of what direction stocks will head,
but for now, the markets are pointing to a probable bounce back.
