Thượng bất chính hạ nổi loạn:
Wagner troops may reach Moscow by evening
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...s-to-intercept
The convoy of lorries, tanks and infantry fighting vehicles is hoping to take advantage of the element of surprise and reach Moscow before it is intercepted by a larger detachment of Russian regular troops, according to analysts and Russian military bloggers.
Video from the convoy showed it had broken through barricades in the Lipetsk region, which borders Moscow from the south. The Russian government has been hurriedly preparing defences, including anti-tank ditches dug into main highways, in order to prevent the convoy from reaching Moscow.
Russia has taken extraordinary steps to limit travel around the country due to the Wagner uprising. All trains in and out of Rostov-on-Don, a city of more than 1 million, have been halted, leaving crowds of stranded travellers at stations. Some cities have been blockaded along the M4 highway to prevent Wagner from entering.

Exodus from Catholic Church in Germany as Half a Million Renounce Membership

The German Catholic Church is grappling with an unparalleled wave of membership renunciations, with over half a million followers choosing to dissociate themselves from the church in the past year alone.
The German Bishops’ Conference, headquartered in Bonn, released startling figures stating that a record 522,821 individuals opted to leave the church in 2022. This staggering figure greatly exceeds both the church’s own projections and the expectations of many observers, overshadowing the previous peak of nearly 360,000 departures in 2021.
Thomas Schüller, a renowned canon lawyer, expressed his grim outlook on the church’s future in the wake of these events. He shared with German media outlets, “The Catholic church is publicly witnessing its slow and painful demise.”
A Church in Crisis Amid Scandals and Controversies
The church, boasting a membership of 21 million according to 2022 records, constituted nearly a quarter of the German population. However, the rapidity and scale of the renunciations have sent shockwaves throughout the clergy, largely triggered by a chain of child abuse scandals and allegations of extensive cover-ups.
The rate of departures appears to have intensified following the release of a damning expert report on abuse in the archdiocese of Munich and Freising. The discourse around Pope Benedict XVI’s alleged involvement in the scandal, who has since passed away, has further fueled the crisis.
Compounding the church’s woes were legal disputes over compensatory payments for abuse victims in Cologne and Traunstein in Upper Bavaria. High-profile accusations that Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki of Cologne had lied about his knowledge of the abuse cases also surfaced. Woelki, whose residences were the subject of police raids, continues to refute these allegations.
A Nationwide Trend: Protestant Church Membership Also Declines
This phenomenon is not isolated to the Catholic Church. The Protestant church in Germany, similarly embroiled in abuse scandals, witnessed 380,000 individuals withdrawing their memberships in 2022. As per the last year’s records, it has a remaining congregation of 19.5 million.
Schüller pointed out multiple factors driving people away from the Catholic Church, but emphasized the events in Cologne as a “catalyst” for the exodus.
The wave of renunciations poses a significant financial blow to the church, which collects billions of euros in church tax annually.
The Implication of Leaving the Church in Germany
German citizens who identify with the Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish faiths are officially registered with their local authorities and are obligated to pay the Kirchensteuer or Kultursteuer (church tax or cultural tax). This tax, ranging from 8% to 9% of an individual’s income tax, is deducted monthly by the tax office and transferred to the respective denomination.
To formally exit a church, an individual must visit the local register office and pay a €30 administrative fee, a process known as a Kirchenaustritt or church withdrawal.
The church tax, established in German law in 1919 and reaffirmed in 1933 and 1949, continues to be a critical source of income for the churches. Austria, Germany’s neighbour, instituted a mandatory tax for Catholics in 1939 and has maintained it to ensure the church’s independence from political influence.

Ừa thời thì đi đạo lấy gạo mà ăn, còn giờ thì đi đạo lấy lương mà đóng. Có thuế mới vực được đạo.
