Một điều mà bài báo này hoàn toàn không đề cập tới rằng thuốc này chỉ hữu hiệu

Các nước châu Á đổ xô mua thuốc viên chống COVID của Merck


Thuốc viên chống virus, molnupiravir, đang thử nghiệm của Merck chữa COVID.

Chính phủ Thái Lan đang thương lượng với công ty Merck & Co để mua 200.000 liệu trình thuốc viên chống virus đang thử nghiệm của Merck chữa COVID. Như vậy Thái Lan trở thành quốc gia châu Á mới nhất đổ xô mua thuốc này sau khi bị tuột hậu sau các nước phương Tây về vaccine.

Ông Somsak Akksilp, Tổng giám đốc Tổng cục Dịch vụ Thuốc men, cho hay Thái Lan đang thương lượng một hợp đồng mua thuốc chống virus vừa kể tên là molnupiravir.

Hàn Quốc, Đài Loan và Malaysia cũng cho hay đang thảo luận để mua thuốc trong khi Philippines, nơi đang diễn ra cuộc thử nghiệm thuốc này, nói họ hy vọng cuộc nghiên cứu ngay trong nước sẽ giúp họ tiếp cận dễ dàng hơn với loại thuốc vừa kể.

Các nước này đều từ chối tiết lộ chi tiết về các cuộc thương thuyết.

Diễn tiến này xảy ra sau khi dữ liệu từ cuộc thử nghiệm lâm sàng lâm thời công bố ngày 1/10 cho thấy thuốc có thể giảm khoảng 50% rủi ro nhập viện hay tử vong đối với bệnh nhân có nguy cơ cao bệnh COVID-19 nặng.

Thuốc viên molnupiravir, được bào chế để cài sai lầm vào mã gen của virus, sẽ là thuốc uống đầu tiên chống COVID-19.

Các nước châu Á muốn sớm có được nguồn cung về loại thuốc này sau khi bị thiếu hụt về vaccine, nhưng chưa thấy chính phủ Việt Nam lên tiếng.

“Chúng tôi hiện đang làm việc trên thỏa thuận mua bán với Merck hy vọng sẽ hoàn tất trong tuần này…Chúng tôi đã đặt trước 200.000 liệu trình,” ông Somsak nói. Ông cho biết sớm nhất là tháng 12 này sẽ có thuốc dù còn tuỳ thuộc vào sự chấp thuận của Cơ quan Quản trị Thực phẩm và Dược phẩm Mỹ và cơ quan thẩm quyền dược phẩm Thái Lan đối với loại thuốc này.

Số ca nhiễm COVID hàng ngày tại Thái Lan xuống dưới 10.000 hôm 4/10, lần đầu tiên kể từ giữa tháng 7. Cho tới nay, nước này đã tiêm 55,5 triệu liều vaccine COVID và tiêm chủng hoàn toàn cho 31% dân số.

Merck hy vọng sản xuất 10 triệu liệu trình molnupiravir trước cuối năm nay. Công ty đã có hợp đồng với chính phủ Mỹ cung cấp 1,7 triệu liệu trình với giá 700 đô la một liệu trình.

Công ty nói sẽ giảm giá dựa trên tiêu chuẩn thu nhập của mỗi nước.

Một phát ngôn viên của Ủy ban châu Âu cho hay Brussels có thể tổ chức đấu thầu chung mua thuốc cho EU, tương tự như chiến lược mua vaccine COVID.

Một phát ngôn viên Bộ Y tế Đức cho biết chính phủ đang theo dõi việc phát triển các liệu pháp mới, nhưng từ chối bình luận về việc liệu Đức có định đặt mua thuốc của Merck hay không.

Lobsters are one of a number of products from Australia that China has restricted imports of as relations between the countries plunged.But they remain a prized and much sought-after delicacy in mainland China.

Imports of Australian rock lobsters to Hong Kong – which maintains no restrictions on the crustaceans – have since sky-rocketed, with suspicions that the vast majority end up on mainland tables.

In June, Bloomberg reported that Hong Kong has become the world’s largest importer of Australian lobsters, with monthly trade growing more than 2,000% from October to April.

Last week, Hong Kong and mainland authorities seized 5,300 kilograms of smuggled Australian lobsters, worth around US$540,000, and arrested 13 people.

Lobsters are just one of a cornucopia of in-demand goods that gangs smuggle into China.

Recent speedboat smuggling busts have netted everything from luxury watches, handbags and shoes to endangered animal parts, cosmetics, wines, whiskey and cigars.

Man stabbed, 16 others hurt as attacker starts fire on Tokyo train




A man dressed in Batman’s Joker costume was arrested for attempted murder after a knife and fire attack on a Keio Line train in Tokyo on Sunday night left 17 people injured, one seriously, authorities said, as revelers were heading to the city center for Halloween.

Police arrested the 24-year-old man, who identified himself as Kyota Hattori, at the scene. A male passenger in his 70s was in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest as the train was moving around 8 p.m.

Hattori was quoted by investigators as saying he “wanted to kill people and be given the death penalty,” and hoped to do so if he killed two or more people. He also told them he had scattered lighter fluid.

According to the police, Hattori referenced an incident in August on an Odakyu Electric Railway commuter train in Tokyo in which a man stabbed and slashed 10 passengers amid heightened security for the Tokyo Olympics.

The other victims in Sunday’s incident ranged in age from their teens to their 60s. In addition to the seriously injured man, 16 people sustained minor injuries including smoke inhalation.

The incident, which caused panic among passengers who scrambled to escape through train windows, took place on a 10-car train bound for Shinjuku, a busy station in central Tokyo, from Hachioji in the west of the capital.

Investigative sources and eyewitnesses said the suspect was brandishing what looked like a kitchen knife and holding a plastic bottle in his other hand as he walked through the train.

After riding the train in the eighth car from the front and stabbing the man in his 70s, Hattori moved to the sixth car where he scattered the fluid and burnt a seat. The train then filled with smoke.

A male passenger, who was about a meter away from Hattori, said the knife looked like it was stained with fake blood. “I thought it was a Halloween prank,” he said.

The limited express train made an emergency stop at Kokuryo Station in Chofu, western Tokyo, and the fire was put out about 30 minutes later after more than 40 firefighting vehicles were mobilized.

“I heard a loud bang and saw flames and smoke in the back. Everyone was panicking,” a male passenger said.

Photos and videos of the incident, which took place on the day of Japan’s general election, were posted on social media by eyewitnesses. People were seen climbing out of train windows onto the platform after the doors failed to immediately open when the train stopped. Screaming could be heard and someone saying, “Run away.”

In a video posted to social media, the assailant was seen dressed in clothes that resemble those of the Joker, the villain from the Batman franchise. After the train had stopped, he was seen sitting alone on a train seat, calmly smoking a cigarette. Another video showed the same man surrounded by police.

The man reportedly did not resist being taken into custody.

One of the passengers, who said, “I saw a woman crying and shivering. I thought I was going to die,” was reminded of the sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system by the Aum Shinrikyo cult in 1995 that killed 14 people and injured over 6,000.

A number of attacks on trains and station premises in the Tokyo area have occurred recently.

On Oct. 15, two men were stabbed by a man at JR Ueno Station, and two people were injured in a Tokyo subway station in late August after a man sprayed sulfuric acid in the face of another man.
