Sky News Australia banned from YouTube for seven days over Covid misinformation
    https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...misinformation

Sky News Australia has been banned from uploading content to YouTube for seven days after violating its medical misinformation policies by posting numerous videos which denied the existence of Covid-19 or encouraged people to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin.

The ban was imposed by the digital giant on Thursday afternoon, the day after the Daily Telegraph ended Alan Jones’s regular column amid controversy about his Covid-19 commentary which included calling the New South Wales chief health officer Kerry Chant a village idiot on his Sky News program.

One of the most popular videos, with 4.6m views, is Jones’s “Australians must know the truth – this virus is not a pandemic”, which was posted at the height of the pandemic last year.

On 19 July, Sky News was forced to apologise for a Jones interview with MP Craig Kelly in which they claimed the Delta variant is not dangerous and vaccines won’t help you. The video was removed and a lengthy apology was published on the Sky News website.

Stolen generation members to receive $378.6m in payouts under redress scheme

    https://www.theguardian.com/australi...redress-scheme

The new scheme will apply to living members of the stolen generations who were removed as children from their families in the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory prior to self-government and the Jervis Bay territory.

Wyatt said the scheme would include one-off payments of $75,000 in recognition of the harm caused by forced removal and a one-off healing assistance payment of $7,000 “in recognition that the action to facilitate healing will be specific to each individual”.

The government overhauled the Closing the Gap initiative last year after months of negotiation with Aboriginal peak organisations.

As a consequence of the reboot, the commonwealth, states and territories have identified four priority reforms and 17 socioeconomic targets, and have agreed to work in partnership with Aboriginal organisations to design and deliver on priority areas such as housing, early childhood
    and justice reform.

Sky News Australia deletes dozens of videos promoting unproven Covid treatments
    https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...vid-treatments

Sky News Australia has quietly deleted at least 31 videos that question the public health response to Covid-19 or promote unproven treatments as the broadcaster prepares for its chief executive, Paul Whittaker, to appear at a Senate inquiry on Friday, Guardian Australia can reveal.

The disappearing videos include Alan Jones saying Victorian premier Daniel Andrews is “wrong” on face masks: “that bloke is in need of medication”; and a Jones interview with a Canadian pathologist who claimed Covid was the “greatest hoax ever perpetrated on an unsuspecting public”.

In another removed video Andrew Bolt says hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin should not be banned: “Listen I don’t know if these drugs work, but I do not see a good reason to ban or restrict them.”

Outsiders co-host Rowan Dean has also spoken about the unproven treatments, going so far as to say governments are “directly responsible for the deaths of Australians” whose lives could have been saved by hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.
In another video which has been taken down Jones says Covid-19 is not a “unique disease” and the public is being lied to by authorities.

“It does not appear to have a noticeably higher mortality rate than the so-called common cold,” Jones said in October last year. “Yet here we are with lockdowns everywhere. “I won’t be letting up on this because I am sick and tired of the nation being told rubbish. Or should that word be lies? “The point is, none of us are trusted. Governments are determining what we do about our health. And the consequences may be damaging indeed.

    ‘Spread your legs’
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...inisters-gaffe

At a media briefing on Sunday, minister Chris Hipkins was updating the country on the growing number of coronavirus cases in the community, when he urged New Zealanders to socially distance when they go outside to “spread their legs”.

“It is a challenge for people in high density areas to get outside and spread their legs when they are surrounded by other people,” he said.

When Hipkins later realised his slip-up, he said he would go and “stretch his legs” and acknowledged that the media “would all have fun with him later”.

The gaffe was not lost on New Zealanders, who embraced the hashtag #spreadyourlegs and called on fellow citizens to “spread your legs, and save lives”.

Tình yêu mật ngọt (mật ngọt trên cây):

New Zealand and Australia battle over lucrative Mānuka honey
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...e-manuka-honey

The lucrative honey is produced from bees feeding on the pollen of the Leptospermum scopariumplant, native to both Australia and New Zealand, and is famed for its anti-bacterial properties. In New Zealand, it is called Mānuka, in Australia, it is more commonly known as Tea Tree, but the word Manuka (without a macron, which is used to indicate a long vowel) has been in common use in Tasmania for at least 100 years.

Both countries make the honey, both label it Mānuka, or variations thereof, and both have multimillion-dollar export industries relying on that brand.

Some New Zealand batches with a particularly high UMF (unique Mānuka factor) rating fetch NZ$2,000-$5,000 a jar at luxury stores like Harrods in London. Its value and the global demand has led to a spate of crimes in New Zealand, with reports of hive thefts, covert poisonings and fights between beekeepers over land use.
