Eugene Peterson, a retired sergeant major who was drafted into the army in 1941 and served in both the Philippines and Vietnam, extolled the virtues of the soda pop while celebrating his birthday at Travis air force base in Fairfield, California, where he is a volunteer.

While Peterson’s daughter Linda Standage was asked what she thought the secret to her father’s longevity was, her dad said Dr Pepper was the secret.

Peterson isn’t the only centenarian to claim the carbonated beverage has kept them alive for so long. In 2015, Elizabeth Sullivan, a 104-year-old woman in Fort Worth, Texas, also credited Dr Pepper for her lengthy lifespan. She drank two cans a day since she was 60, she said. Sullivan passed away in 2017 at the age of 106.

Last fall, all seven city council seats were up for grabs. On 7 November, after a campaign season packed with candidates, Minnesota’s capital city elected its new city council – comprised entirely of women. Last week marked the group’s inauguration.

Noecker’s fellow council members – Nelsie Yang, Cheniqua Johnson, Hwa Jeong Kim, Saura Jost, Anika Bowie and Mitra Jalali – are all women of color and, like her, progressive in their politics. All council members are also below the age of 40.

Several barriers to women’s political representation were discovered: women’s unequal access to monied networks in campaign fundraising, low salaries for public service jobs and political party influence.

World Happiness Report revealed that the US has slid from its 15th place last year to 23rd place this year.

Among people below the age of 30 from 2021 to 2023, the US ranks 62nd in happiness. Meanwhile, among those who are 60 and above, the US ranks 10th.

Finland, for the seventh straight year, has been ranked the world’s happiest country. It is followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Israel. The least happy country is Afghanistan, the report said, followed by Lebanon, Lesotho, Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
