According to authorities, the suspect punched, shoved or elbowed the Asian women without provocation. He was described as a man in his 20s with light complexion and blond hair, and was captured on camera wearing a light blue T-shirt, dark pants and a multicolored backpack.

The first attack occurred at 6:30pm in midtown Manhattan, where the suspect punched a 57-year-old Asian woman in the face and then fled.

Ten minutes after the first attack, the suspect approached a 25-year-old Asian woman near Fifth Avenue and East 30th Street and hit her in the face and the back of the arm. He repeated the same pattern several more times over the next hour, hitting young Asian women – ages 21, 25, 19 and 25 – in the face before shoving one more woman, 20, to the ground near Broadway and East 8th Street and fleeing westward.

Earlier this week, the family of GuiYing Ma, an Asian woman who was struck by a man with a rock last fall in Queens, announced she had died after 10 weeks in a coma. Ma is the fourth Asian American in two months to die in New York as a result of violence against members of the AAPI community.

The New York police department arrested Steven Zajonc outside a library in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday evening after two security guards recognized him from surveillance videos.

Roshanta Williams, a New York Public Library guard who works at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, saw the suspect on Wednesday morning and realized that he frequented the library in the past months, according to an NYPL press release.

Another guard, Lt Elmirel Cephas, told the New York Times that he had seen Zajonc, who is believed to be homeless, multiple times in the library in recent months, often six to seven days a week.

In 2019, the Trump administration made the United States the only foreign country to recognize Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights, which Israel seized from Syria in the 1967 War.

Tel Aviv University Law Professor Eliav Lieblich noted that the decision – which contradicted a unanimous United Nations Security Council resolution supported by the US itself – constituted a “significant departure from the bedrock legal prohibition of unilateral annexation.” Yale Law School’s Oona Hathaway called the move “outrageous and potentially destabilizing to the postwar international order.” The Russian government called it an “indication of the contempt that Washington shows for the norms of international law.”

After Trump’s move, Illinois Senator Richard Durbin asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to explain the legal difference between Israel’s annexation of the Golan and Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, which had led the US to impose sanctions.

Since taking office, the Biden administration has reversed neither of these Trump decisions. To the contrary, the US continues to provide Israel almost $4 billion in military aid per year absent any human rights conditions even as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International allege that it is practicing apartheid.

MOSCOW, Nga (NV) – Điện Kremlin chỉ đạo truyền thông Nga trích dẫn “càng nhiều càng tốt” chương trình của ông Tucker Carlson, của đài Fox News, vì quan điểm ‘thân Nga’ và chỉ trích các lãnh đạo Mỹ và đồng minh NATO về cuộc chiến ở Ukraine, theo trang Huffington Post hôm Chủ Nhật, 13 Tháng Ba.

Một công văn dài 12 trang từ một chính phủ Nga gửi cho giới truyền thông nước này, đề ngày 3 Tháng Ba, chỉ thị “điều cần thiết là sử dụng càng nhiều càng tốt chương trình” của ông Carlson.

Qiming Lin, 59, of the PRC, is charged with conspiracy to commit interstate harassment.

As alleged, Lin works on behalf of the PRC’s Ministry of State Security (MSS). The MSS is a civilian intelligence and secret police agency responsible for counterintelligence and political security.
If convicted, Lin faces a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Lin remains at large.

Shujun Wang, 73, of Queens, New York, is charged with acting as an agent of the PRC government, criminal use of means of identification and making materially false statements in connection with his participation in a transnational repression scheme orchestrated by the MSS.

As alleged, Wang is a former visiting scholar and author who helped start a pro-democracy organization in Queens that memorializes two former leaders of the Chinese Communist Party who promoted political and economic reforms within the PRC and were eventually forced from power. Since at least 2015, however, Wang has secretly operated at the direction and control of several MSS officers.

Fan “Frank” Liu, 62, of Long Island, New York, and Matthew Ziburis, 49, of Oyster Bay New York, are charged with conspiring to act as agents of the PRC government. Liu, Ziburis and co-defendant Quiang “Jason” Sun, 40, of the PRC, are charged with conspiring to commit interstate harassment and criminal use of a means of identification. Liu and Sun are charged with conspiring to bribe a federal official in connection with their scheme to obtain the tax returns of a pro-democracy activist residing in the United States.

The co-conspirators also made plans to destroy the artwork of a dissident artist whose work is critical of the PRC government, and the artist’s sculpture depicting PRC President Xi Jinping as a coronavirus molecule was demolished in the Spring 2021.

Kim had already pleaded guilty to taking more than 3,700 wild dudleya plants from California state parks and attempting to export them to South Korea.

He had already fled prosecution once, escaping on foot from the US into Mexico in 2019.

What is clear is that when Kim flew into LAX from Mexico in October 2018, he and his two assistants, Youngin Back and Bong Jun Kim, were fully on the radar of California’s environmental cops.

Game wardens of the state’s fish and wildlife department observed Kim renting a minivan and filling it with empty backpacks, plastic bins and boxes. The three men later began a two-day drive up the California coast, according to court records.

The men dropped off their haul at the Secret Garden Nursery in Vista, California, then returned north for two days to dig up more succulents in Mendocino, this time communicating with handheld radios.

Dudleya farinosa, the type of dudleya most sought after by California poachers, is particularly “charismatic” to humans, experts say.

Their common name, “liveforevers”, is said to have been given to them by 19th-century European naturalists, who were shocked to find samples of the plant still alive after months-long ocean voyages.

When police in Canada responded to reports of a car travelling at 150km per hour (93mph) on the wrong side of the road, they initially believed they had intercepted a drunk driver.So officers were surprised to discover that the driver was in fact an 11-year-old boy.

Officers chased the Hyundai along city streets and the car soon lost control, smashing through a fence and into a residential backyard. But moments later, the vehicle then returned to the road, almost hitting the police car head-on.

A second police car was dispatched and the car was eventually “pinned” and forced to stop, but not before it smashed through another fence, according to police.

The driver was reported to be 11 years old and his companion in the passenger seat was 12.

Republican congressman convicted of lying

A federal jury in Los Angeles convicted Jeff Fortenberry, a nine-term Republican, on Thursday of concealing information and two counts of providing false statements to authorities.

Fortenberry has maintained his innocence. In a YouTube video filmed with his wife and dog, he said “a person from overseas illegally moved money to my campaign” and he “didn’t know anything about this”.

“After learning of illegal contributions to his campaign, the congressman repeatedly chose to conceal the violations of federal law to protect his job, his reputation and his close associates,” said US attorney Tracy L Wilkison in a statement.

“The lies in this case threatened the integrity of the American electoral system and were designed to prevent investigators from learning the true source of campaign funds.”
