Help me!': video shows Florida officer arresting six-year-old after tantrum
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...school-tantrum
Newly released body-camera footage shows the moment a police officer in Florida arrested a six-year-old girl as she cried and begged not to be taken from school.
Kaia Rolle was led to a police vehicle with her hands fastened behind her back in zip ties after having a tantrum at her school in Orlando that included kicking and punching school personnel.
By the time police officers arrived at the Lucious & Emma Nixon academy, she had already settled down.
In the video, Kaia can be seen seated and listening to a teacher read as officers approach her.
After she asks what the zip ties are for, an officer, Dennis Turner, responds: “They’re for you.”
Kaia starts to cry as a second officer, who has not been identified, binds her wrists.
“Help me. Help me, please,” she can be heard pleading and crying, as officers restrain her.
As the officers lead her to a patrol SUV, Kaia can be heard saying: “I don’t wanna go in a police car.”
The second officer replies: “You have to.”
“Please, give me a second chance,” she sobs.
Turner was later fired for violating agency policy.

Ernesto Cardenal obituary
https://www.theguardian.com/books/20...denal-obituary
In 1956 Cardenal experienced his religious conversion. “God simply showed himself to me as love,” was how he explained it. In May 1957 he became a novice at the Trappist monastery of Our Lady of Gethsemani in Kentucky, in the US, under the guidance of the poet and philosopher Thomas Merton. His life there is reflected in the collection of poems Gethsemani, Ky, published in 1960. The stern Trappist regime took its toll on Cardenal’s health, however, so that after two years he moved on to a Benedictine monastery in Colombia. He was ordained in 1962. His major book of poems from these years is Zero-Hour, published in Mexico in 1960, as were his Epigramas the following year.
Most gratifyingly for Cardenal, in February 2019 Pope Francis lifted the ban on him practising as a priest, declaring in a personal letter to him that he was “absolved of all canonical censure”.

Anger grows at Trump administration's coronavirus testing failures
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...administration
Donald Trump claimed ‘We have tested heavily’ but in fact just eight tests were carried out on Tuesday, as even allies speak out.
From Congress to state capitals across the country, politicians of both main parties have shown rare bipartisan agreement that the pace of federal testing is woefully inadequate. Congress members who were given private briefings by Trump administration officials on Thursday expressed shock and outrage that so far only 11,000 tests have been conducted in a country of 327 million people.
One of the most astounding indications that the US is falling abysmally behind where it needs to be in getting to grips with the crisis is given by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in its coronavirus database. It records the number of specimens tested daily for Covid-19 by CDC and public health labs.
It shows that on Tuesday, the most recent entry given, the total number of specimens tested across the whole of the US was eight.

Tennessee AG cracks down on men who hoarded thousands of sanitizer bottles amid shopper scare
https://news.yahoo.com/tennessee-ag-...170426055.html
Noah Colvin, of Hixson, Tennessee, took a 1,300-mile road trip in early March across Tennessee and Kentucky, racking up thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer to resell online.
Meanwhile, his brother Matt stayed at home, waiting for pallets of antibacterial wipes and even more sanitizer to be shipped, according to a New York Times article.
The two then sold sanitizer online at a steep markup — $8 to $70 a pop. But Amazon quickly removed their listings amid a larger effort to stop coronavirus-related price gouging.
Now, the brothers reportedly have more than 17,000 bottles of hand sanitizer — and two attorneys general who demand they stop buying more.

“Why is he getting in from school at 10:53am you ask?” Tompkins wrote. He had was just sent home for capitalizing on coronavirus fears by “charging students 50p a squirt for hand sanitizer.” She also said that disciplining his behavior was tough when his dad was calling him up to let him know he’s a “legend.”
