'Archbishop' of Florida church selling bleach 'miracle cure' arrested with son
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...e-arrested-son

The substance, chlorine dioxide, is a powerful bleach used in textile manufacturing. The Grenons market it as “miracle mineral solution” or MMS which they say when drunk as a dilution can cure almost all illnesses including Covid, cancer, HIV/Aids as well as the condition autism.

In April, the Guardian revealed that Grenon had written to Donald Trump in the White House encouraging the US president to embrace the product in his efforts to contain coronavirus. The letter claimed MMS “can rid the body of Covid-19”.

A few days later, Trump went on national TV in his daily coronavirus briefing from the White House and raised the idea of injecting disinfectant into the body to fight Covid-19. “Is there a way we can do something, by an injection inside or almost a cleaning?” he said.

The US Food and Drug Administration has banned Grenon and his sons from peddling in bleach. Last August the FDA issued a public notice warning Americans not to drink MMS or similar products.

“If you are drinking MMS or other sodium chlorite products, stop now,” the notice said. “The FDA has received many reports that these products, sold online as ‘treatments’, have made consumers sick.”

When the Guardian asked Mark Grenon to respond to the FDA’s warning, he replied in an email: “You and your Guardian newspaper are just puppets of the evil players of this world like the Murdoch/Rothschild families! May God open your eyes Picklehead Ed that doesn’t research the Truth or YOU ARE A PAID LIAR!”

    VOA: Voice of Asskissers

Trump administration steps up efforts to turn broadcasters into propaganda outlets
    https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...aganda-outlets

The Trump administration has accelerated its purge of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), in what critics warn is a further step towards turning Voice of America and other public broadcasters into propaganda outlets.

On Tuesday, Voice of America (VOA) put out a worshipful tweet about the vice-president, Mike Pence, who it said had “weathered storms that have shaken the Trump White House, standing by the president through an impeachment trial and many Cabinet reshuffles.”

The report the tweet linked to provided a more measured of Pence’s role, with one expert casting some doubt on his impact. But that nuance was not reflected in the tweet, which declared: “Mike Pence: Backing Up a Demanding Boss” above a video about the vice-president with the VOA logo and slogan “A Free Press Matters”.

US seeks to trigger UN 'snapback' sanctions on Iran

The US aims to activate a "snapback" mechanism in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal that would restore international sanctions on Iran. The move escalates a dispute between the US and other members of the UN security council.

The United States is to demand the United Nations reimpose all sanctions against Iran, US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will travel to UN headquarters in New York and trigger a so-called "snapback" to restore all international sanctions on Iran that were eased as part of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

"It's a snapback, not uncommon," Trump said at a press conference.

Thee request to bring back sanctions could escalate a diplomatic spat between the US and its allies on the UN Security Council, one that could call into question the legitimacy of the UN's most powerful body.

Permanent council members China, Britain, France and Russia — all signatories to the 2015 deal — are against reimposing sanctions on Iran and have remained committed to keeping the accord alive.

    'Snapback mechanism'

The 2015 Iran nuclear deal is designed to provide the Middle Eastern country sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. The UN Security Council's permanent members, plus Germany, are all signatories to the accord.

The deal has a "snapback" mechanism that was created in the event Tehran violated the agreement.

Britain, France and Germany said the US no longer has any say over the Iran nuclear deal because it left the accord two years ago. But the US claims that it has the right to trigger the "snapback as an original participant to the nuclear deal and a permanent member of the Security Council.

"This will be a fully valid enforceable Security Council resolution and we have every expectation that it will be enforced just like every other Security Council resolution that is in place,'' Pompeo said on Wednesday.

''We will be in full compliance with that and we have every expectation that every country in the world will live up to its obligations.''

The attempt to restore sanctions on Tehran comes a week after the Council denied a US request to extend an arms embargo on Iran.

UN Security Council rejects US demand to 'snapback' sanctions on Iran

The UN blocked a bid by the Trump administration to reimpose sanctions on Iran due to lack of consensus. The move drew angry rebuke by the US envoy to UN who accused other members of supporting "terrorists."

The UN on Tuesday dismissed a controversial bid by the United States to reimpose all international sanctions against Iran, laying bare the differences between Washington and other members of the Security Council on Iran policy.

The council presidency, held by Indonesia since in August, said it was "not in a position to take further action" on Washington's request citing a lack of consensus in the 15-member body.

The Trump administration had demanded on August 20 that the Security Council restore UN sanctions against Iran accusing it of failing to comply with the terms of the historic 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The move was immediately rejected by Britain, France, and Germany, the three US allies who are party to the deal.

According to the agreement between Iran and six major powers, sanctions against the Islamic Republic were lifted in exchange for it agreeing not to develop nuclear weapons.

Washington pulled out of the deal two years ago but insists on its legal right to trigger a return of sanctions, using the disputed procedure called "snapback."

All members, except the Dominican Republic, expressed their opposition to the US move, according to Indonesia's UN ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani.

The US has accused Tehran of failing to comply with the terms of the historic 2015 Iran nuclear deal

"Having contacted the members and received letters from many member countries it is clear to me that there is one member which has a particular position on the issues, while there are significant numbers of members who have contesting views," Djani said during a video conference on the Middle East.

'Standing in the company of terrorists'

The US ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft issued a strong rebuke to the announcement. She reiterated Washington's position on the issue while accusing other members of the UN's most powerful body showing a lack of courage and moral clarity.

"Let me just make it really, really clear: The Trump Administration has no fear in standing in limited company on this matter," Craft said. "I only regret that other members of this Council have lost their way and now find themselves standing in the company of terrorists."

"It is our European colleagues on this Council that have expressed privately their concerns about lifting sanctions on Iran but have taken no actions to address that concern."

France's deputy UN ambassador Anne Gueguen said the 13 members of the Security Council agree that the US notification of "snapback" sanctions has no effect since it is no longer party to the agreement.

She added the European nations — France, Britain, and Germany — believe that "systematic Iranian non-compliance with its JCPOA commitments'' should be addressed through talks, initially in Vienna on September 1 and through a dispute resolution mechanism in the nuclear deal.

The three European nations are willing to work with council members including the other JCPOA participants, Russia and China, "to seek a realistic path forward that could secure the support of the council," Gueguen said.

Russia's envoy to UN Vassily Nebenzia praised the council's decision. "I hope that the United States would be able to finally realize it, and not... pursue this path which is not only illegal but simply will not lead to achieving the result that was envisaged by the United States," he said.
