US shopper uses KKK hood as Covid-19 face covering
https://www.todayonline.com/world/us...-face-covering
Images of the man taken by a fellow shopper at a Vons grocery store have sparked outrage and the San Diego Sheriff's Department said it had launched a probe into the incident that took place on Saturday (May 2).
Employees at the store, located about 29 km northeast of San Diego, told the man to remove the hood and he did so at the checkout counter.
The unidentified man wore the offensive hood following an order that went into effect last week requiring everyone in San Diego County to wear a face covering while out in public.

Colombian designers prepare cardboard hospital beds that double as coffins

With Covid-19 cases surging across the region, a team of Colombian designers came up with the idea as a grimly pragmatic solution for anticipated shortages of hospital beds and funerary caskets.
Gómez says the company can produce up to 3,000 beds per month, and that each one, costing about $95, can support up to 150kg (about 330lb).
“People might say that we are making death beds, but we are trying to help during a crisis,” he added.
The company says it is fielding interest from potential clients in the US, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Chile, and has promised to donate 10 beds to a hospital in Leticia, a hard-hit city in Colombia’s Amazon.
Some observers were unsure what to think of the macabre invention, suggesting that it may be a step too far. “Is it ingenious or terrifying?” asked one Twitter user. “I still haven’t decided.”

Georgia Woman Pleads Guilty to COVID-19 Related Federal Offense for Selling Unregistered Pesticides on eBay
https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/georg...red-pesticides
Marketed as “Virus Shut Out” and “Stop The Virus,” the pesticide took the form of a card-shaped device to be worn around the user’s neck.
The eBay listing depicted the removal of viruses by wearing the “Virus Shut Out” and “Stop The Virus” product. Additionally, the listing stated that “its main ingredient is ClO2, which is a new generation of widely effective and powerful fungicide recognized internationally at present. Bacteria and viruses can be lifted up within 1 meter of the wearer’s body, just like a portable air cleaner with its own protective cover.”
It also stated that “[i]n extraordinary times, access to public places and confined spaces will be protected by one more layer and have one more layer of safety protection effect, thus reducing the risks and probability of infection and transmission.”

'More masks than jellyfish': coronavirus waste ends up in ocean
https://www.theguardian.com/environm...ds-up-in-ocean
The French non-profit Opération Mer Propre, whose activities include regularly picking up litter along the Côte d’Azur, began sounding the alarm late last month.
Divers had found what Joffrey Peltier of the organisation described as “Covid waste” – dozens of gloves, masks and bottles of hand sanitiser beneath the waves of the Mediterranean, mixed in with the usual litter of disposable cups and aluminium cans.
The quantities of masks and gloves found were far from enormous, said Peltier. But he worried that the discovery hinted at a new kind of pollution, one set to become ubiquitous after millions around the world turned to single-use plastics to combat the coronavirus. “It’s the promise of pollution to come if nothing is done,” said Peltier.
In France alone, authorities have ordered two billion disposable masks, said Laurent Lombard of Opération Mer Propre. “Knowing that … soon we’ll run the risk of having more masks than jellyfish in the Mediterranean,” he wrote on social media alongside video of a dive showing algae-entangled masks and soiled gloves in the sea near Antibes.
