The agenda of Black Lives Matter is far different from the slogan

The goals of the Black Lives Matter organization go far beyond what most people think. But they are hiding in plain sight, there for the world to see, if only we read beyond the slogans and the innocuous-sounding media accounts of the movement.

The group’s radical Marxist agenda would supplant the basic building block of society — the family — with the state and destroy the economic system that has lifted more people from poverty than any other. Black lives, and all lives, would be harmed.

Theirs is a blueprint for misery, not justice. It must be rejected.

ALGIERS, Algeria (NV) – Chính phủ Algeria hôm Thứ Sáu, 3 Tháng Bảy, đón nhận các chiếc sọ của 24 nghĩa quân nổi dậy chống thực dân Pháp đô hộ quốc gia này, vốn đã từng được cất giữ trong nhiều thập niên tại một viện bảo tàng ở Paris.

Theo bản tin của hãng thông tấn AFP, việc trả lại các hài cốt này diễn ra trong lúc trên toàn thế giới có cuộc tái duyệt xét di sản của chủ nghĩa thực dân, kể từ khi xảy ra vụ ông George Floyd, 46 tuổi, người Mỹ da đen, bị một cảnh sát da trắng ở Minneapolis, Minnesota, giết hồi Tháng Năm vừa qua.

Trưởng Cao Ủy Nhân Quyền Liên Hiệp Quốc, bà Michelle Bachelet, đã kêu gọi các quốc gia trên toàn thế giới hãy có hành động chuộc lại lỗi lầm của “nhiều thế kỷ bạo động và kỳ thị.”

Các chiếc sọ người này, đã có lúc được các sĩ quan quân đội Pháp thời thuộc địa, coi là chiến lợi phẩm, đã được một phi cơ vận tải Hercules C-130 chở về phi trường Algiers, được các chiến đấu cơ Algeria hộ tống khi vào không phận quốc gia này.

Trong 21 phát đại bác chào đón, Tổng Thống Abdelmadjid Tebboune và đội quân danh dự đã nghiêm trang chào đón sự trở về cố quốc của 24 người anh hùng này.

Hài cốt của họ, được để trong các quan tài phủ cờ Algeria, đã được các quân nhân vác trên vai, đưa ra khỏi phi cơ, trong tiếng nhạc trầm hùng của đội quân nhạc.

Tổng Thống Tebboune đến nghiêng mình trước từng quan tài và một giáo sĩ Hồi Giáo đọc lời cầu nguyện cho người quá cố.

Các quan tài này sẽ được đưa đến Điện Văn Hóa ở Algiers, để người dân đến bày tỏ lòng ngưỡng mộ vào Thứ Bảy này.

Vào Chủ Nhật, 5 Tháng Bảy, là ngày kỷ niệm 58 năm Algeria được độc lập từ Pháp, các chiếc sọ này sẽ được chôn cất tại khu dành riêng cho các liệt sĩ ở nghĩa trang El Alia tại thủ đô Algiers.

Văn phòng Tổng Thống Pháp, trong bản thông cáo gửi tới AFP, nói rằng việc trao trả hài cốt là một cử chỉ thân thiện và trong nỗ lực nhằm “hàn gắn kỷ niệm của người dân Pháp và Algeria.”

Khi loan báo việc trao trả hôm Thứ Năm, Tổng Thống Tebboune nói các nghĩa quân bị chặt đầu này “đã bị tước quyền được chôn cất từ hơn 170 năm qua.”

Trong số các hài cốt được trao trả có lãnh tụ kháng chiến Sheik Bouzian, người bị Pháp bắt năm 1849, xử tử rồi chặt đầu, và của ông Mohammed Lamjad ben Abdelmalek.

Một sử gia người Algeria, ông Ali-Farid Belkadi, là người đầu tiên lên tiếng đòi Pháp trao trả các hài cốt này sau khi đến nghiên cứu tại viện bảo tàng Musee de l’Homme năm 2011.

91-year-old victim of looting in 1992 plans to join with protesters

This time, 91-year-old Sang Su Park plans to be a peaceful protester in the streets, not trapped by looters on an Atlanta rooftop as he was nearly three decades ago.

Park doesn’t watch TV, so he hasn’t seen the recent protests in Atlanta ignited by concerns about racism and the killings of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Ky., and Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick. But he’s read about what’s happened.“I’m sick of this situation,” the Korean immigrant, who speaks limited English, told an Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter this week through a translator.It reminds him of the shock that hit him and Atlanta in 1992 after jury acquittals of Los Angeles police officers in the beating of Rodney King. In the upheaval that followed, Park and his wife, Hi Soon, were trapped on the roof of their Five Star Supermarket in southwest Atlanta, facing volley after volley of rocks and bricks thrown by rioters. Their trauma played out on live TV news.Looters ransacked the Park’s small store on Fair Street near the Atlanta University Center. The attackers tried to set fire to the business, he said. Some attempted to bust down a second-floor door the Parks were barricaded behind.“I felt I would die,” Park said.



Park said he didn’t know about “political” issues 28 years ago and still doesn’t. But he called the anger of protesters understandable.
Now, he said, he plans to take part in a protest and march for Justice for Black Lives near Gwinnett Place mall on Sunday afternoon. To walk, he uses two canes, one for each hand.Park said he wants to promote peaceful tactics to bring about change. Racism in the U.S. can’t be eliminated, but it can be diminished, he said.He said he also wants to protect Korean-American-owned businesses and prevent any looting, some of which occurred in recent Atlanta protests, particularly early on.A number of businesses and nonprofits in downtown and Buckhead have been damaged. The cost of the destruction is still being tallied. Meanwhile, some business owners are working on regaining their footing.Park knows the challenges of trying to restart.In the spring of 1992, after the verdicts in the Rodney King case, African-American students at the Atlanta University Center were angry and frustrated with racial injustices and police actions, according to news reports at the time. A march attracted others. At some point the actions morphed into a sporadic, two-day spasm of destruction around intown Atlanta. In addition to property damage, there were news reports of white and Korean bystanders being attacked, as well as journalists and police officers.Park said he doesn’t like to think about that time. Some of the details have faded in his memory. Some are bolstered by news reports from the period and court records.

He was intent on protecting his grocery, the primary livelihood from his family. Police officers had assured the family they’d be safe at the grocery, he said, despite trouble the day before, including broken store windows and people shouting racial epithets aimed at the couple. But on the evening of May 1, 1992, a crowd grew and eventually broke into the market.The Parks and two people from a neighboring liquor store had taken refuge on the grocery’s roof. People below hurled rocks, bricks and items stolen from the store. A projectile struck Hi Soon in the back, injuring her.Eventually, officers in a helicopter dropped tear gas. The crowds cleared. The memories stayed far longer.Park said he and his wife were traumatized.Their decimated business reopened after many months, but Park moved away, afraid of being in contact with people. He stayed in Cambodia for a decade, opening a dry cleaning business there before eventually returning to metro Atlanta, where he still has family.The Five Star closed long ago, and the building was torn down.He decided to participate in this weekend’s march, he said, because “we are all human, and we can show love and stop destruction and violence.”

Berlin metro station to be renamed after pushback over racist term

A Berlin station known as "Moor Street" will be renamed, in a victory for activists who have long protested the derogatory term. The change comes as the Black Lives Matter movement sparked debate about racism in Germany.

A Berlin underground rail station called Mohrenstraße (Moor Street) will be renamed, the city's public transit authority (BVG) announced on Friday.

The move comes as a greater discussion about racism in Germany has unfolded in the wake of global protests, in reaction to the death of African-American George Floyd while under police custody in the US.

Organizations supporting the rights of Africans, Afro-Germans and groups that grapple with the legacy of Germany's colonial past have long demanded the renaming of the street. They object to the presence of word "Moor," which they say is a derogatory term with no place in today's multicultural Germany.

"Out of understanding and respect for the at times controversial debate about the street name, the BVG has now decided not to use it any longer for naming the underground station," the BVG said.

"As a cosmopolitan company and one of the largest employers in the capital, the BVG rejects any form of racism or other discrimination," the BVG added.

Change to take several weeks

BVG has renamed it Glinkastraße, a street which honors Russian composer Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka (1804-1857) and which is located at the intersection of the station, complying with the rules that a station must be named after its location.

A BVG spokeswoman, speaking to local newspaper Berliner Morgenpost, declined to say how much the renaming would cost, but added that the change will take place over the course of several weeks.

The first thing to change will be the sign, but changes will also have to be made to timetables and the BVG internal systems.

The station was opened in 1908 and has already undergone several name changes. From 1908 to 1950 it was known as Kaiserhof, then it changed to Thälmannplatz (1950-1986) and Otto-Grotewohl-Straße (1986-1991). The name Mohrenstraße was added in 1991.

Both the street and the station are located in the central Berlin neighborhood of Mitte. The district is now set to decide on whether or not to rename the street altogether. But this might take longer, as Mitte residents have sought to take part in the discussions.
