remote cheering app to boost atmosphere in empty stadiums
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...empty-stadiums
The Remote Cheerer system developed by the Japanese firm Yamaha allows fans following the match on TV, the radio or online to encourage – or berate – players via their smartphones, their voices reverberating around the stadium in realtime via loudspeakers.
In a recent field test, users in multiple remote locations chose from a range of on-screen options that sent their cheers, applause, chants and boos into the 50,000-seat Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa via 58 speakers set up among the empty seats.

FA unlikely to discipline players for taking a knee as Fifa urges leniency
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/02/fa-will-take-common-sense-approach-to-players-taking-a-knee-in-matches
The president of Fifa, Gianni Infantino, has said that Jadon Sancho, Achraf Hakimi, Weston McKennie and Marcus Thuram deserve applause after leading protests in the Bundesliga against Floyd’s killing. With players from Chelsea and Newcastle following their Liverpool counterparts by going down on one knee at training, the FA is reluctant to discipline individuals who stand against racism when the Premier League season resumes on 17 June.
The president of Uefa, Aleksander Ceferin, also indicated that players will be allowed to pay tribute to Floyd when European competitions resume. “Football is a sport which encourages tolerance, inclusion and justice,” Ceferin said. “These are the same values being espoused by those showing solidarity to George Floyd.”

Aleksandar Katai cut by LA Galaxy over wife's 'racist and violent' Instagram posts
https://www.theguardian.com/football...t-social-media
Aleksandar Katai has been released by the LA Galaxy after a series of alarming social media posts by his wife, Tea.
The Galaxy announced their decision to “mutually part ways” with their new Serbian winger Friday in a one-sentence news release.
Tea Katai made the posts on her Instagram story earlier this week, and the Galaxy angrily condemned them as “racist and violent” on Wednesday.
The Instagram posts made by Tea Katai on Tuesday, which have since been deleted, mocked protests related to the killing of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis last week. One image showed a police SUV attempting to drive through protesters in New York. A caption in Serbian read, “Kill the shits!” while a second showed a picture of an individual carrying boxes of Nikes with the caption “Black Nikes Matter”.
The Galaxy met with Aleksandar Katai on Thursday. He disavowed his wife’s posts late Wednesday night, saying the “views are not ones that I share and are not tolerated in my family”. Katai signed with the Galaxy as a free agent on 31 December.
Galaxy fans immediately reacted with wide online calls for his dismissal. On Thursday, a handful of fans gathered by the David Beckham statue outside the club’s stadium holding a banner reading “No Racists in Our Club” along with a circle and a red line through No 7, Katai’s uniform number.
On Thursday, he posted a message on Instagram calling the posts “a mistake from my family” and saying he took full responsibility, apologizing “for the pain these posts have caused the LA Galaxy family and all allies in the fight against racism”.

Premier League player names to be replaced on shirts by Black Lives Matter
https://www.amazon.com/Bloods-Black-.../dp/0345311973
A minute’s silence will be held before each match in the first round of the restarted Premier League to honour those who have died with Covid-19. Heart-shaped badges paying tribute to NHS workers will be embroidered into team kit, and various measures of support for the Black Lives Matter movement were also agreed upon at Thursday’s meeting between top-flight clubs.
The Guardian understands that the league will have no problem if players or teams wish to take a knee before games, as some clubs have done before recent friendlies. The names on the back of players’ shirts will be replaced, for at least the first set of games, by the words Black Lives Matter, following an initiative driven by club captains this week.
Black Lives Matter badges are also likely to be displayed on shirts, along with their NHS equivalents, although their exact placement is yet to be finalised.
