Thế nhưng nhà tỉ phú Dustin Moskovitz mới 27 tuổi tự tay tạo dựng cơ nghiệp đã không màng đến những chuyện tiêu tiền ăn chơi bốc giời, mà trái lại vẫn lao vào công việc làm ăn, không vì tiền mà vì những ý hướng nghiêm chỉnh hơn. Đồng sáng lập viên Facebook và trước đây là bạn cùng phòng ở đại học Harvard của Mark Zuckerberg, ông Dustin Moskovitz, 27 tuổi , được coi như nhà tỉ phú thân lập thân trẻ nhất thế giới. Nhưng ông không tự mãn an hưởng xa hoa, nhung lụa.

Ông vẫn lao vào công việc, thành lập một công ty trong vùng San Francisco, mặc dù một khi Facebook niêm yết trên thị trường chứng khoán, tài sản của ông có thể sẽ còn gia tăng vượt mức.

Năm 2008, ông cùng với một người bạn, cũng từng làm việc cho Facebook, ông Justin Rosenstein năm nay mới 28 tuổi, có tài sản cỡ 150 triệu đô la, thành lập công ty Asana trong vùng San Francisco.

Những người trẻ này không làm vì cần tiền. Với tài sản đó, họ thừa điều kiện ăn tiêu thoải mái cả đời không hết.

Trong một cuộc phỏng vấn tại San Francisco được hãng AP thuật lại, hai người trẻ này nói họ đến sở làm mỗi ngày vì họ thấy cần phải làm một chuyện gì đó cho cuộc đời trước mặt.

Triệu phú Rosenstein nói: ”Khi chúng tôi nghĩ đến công việc, chúng tôi coi đó như đó một hành động phục vụ, một hành động do tình yêu nhân loại.” Và ông Moskovitz cho rằng nếu giải nghệ, nghỉ hưu thì họ chẳng phục vụ cho ai cả. Hai ông thành lập công ty Asana, mới đây vừa tung ra thị trường nhu liệu dùng phải trả tiền, cho dịch vụ online để quản lý các dự án.

Không những chỉ làm việc, mà họ làm việc siêng năng cần mẫn do ý thích thúc đẩy.

Đã vậy, họ không màng đến những hào nhoáng, xa hoa mà cũng không cần phải xác định rõ địa vị chỉ huy công ty của họ bằng hình thức bề ngoài .

Công ty có tất cả 24 người. Hai ông chủ không lập văn phòng riêng. Họ ngồi chung với những nhân viên khác, và ăn vận xuyềnh xoàng, không cổ cồn, cà vạt, người thì áo sơ mi bỏ ngoài quần, người thì mặc áo len và đi giày thể thao. Trong khu xóm họ ở, họ có thể hòa đồng ngay vào với rất nhiều người trẻ hơi có tí lập dị.

Không hộ tống, không ồn ào, ông Rosenstein thích đi lại bằng xe đạp và mới đây còn bị đạo chích thuổng mất chiếc xe!

Thế nhưng nhân viên làm việc cho Asana được tham gia những lớp yoga miễn phí, có đầu bếp đến nấu ăn cho cả sở, và mỗi nhân viên mới được dành cho 10 ngàn đô la để mua những máy điện toán, nhu liệu và những dụng cụ cần thiết cho công việc của họ.

Chỉ có một điều khiến họ khác nhau, đó là mỗi người có hoàn toàn tự do theo đuổi viễn kiến riêng để làm sao thay đổi thế giới. Và họ tin chắc những sản phẩm của họ sẽ có hiệu quả đúng theo ý họ. Nói cho cùng, trong tư thế của những kỹ sư đầu tiên thành lập Facebook, họ đã chứng kiến sáng tạo cuả họ giúp thay đổi được thế giới một lần rồi.

Theo ông Rosenstein, công ty Asana sẽ tìm cách đưa ra những nhu liệu để tiến hành công việc thường nhật dễ dàng hầu giúp người ta rảnh tay theo đuổi những mục tiêu quan trọng hơn, như nghiên cứu chữa trị ung thư, chế tạo phi thuyền không gian, hay sáng tác nghệ thuật v..v..

Asana cho biết nhiều công ty công nghệ lớn đã đón nhận Asana, như Twitter, LinkedIn và Foursquare. Ngoài ra nhiều nhà đầu tư nổi tiếng cũng ủng hộ Asana.

Hiện ông Moskowitz nắm giữ 7,6% cổ phần của Facebook, tính ra trị giá đến hơn 4 tỉ đô la trước khi công ty niêm yết trên thị trường.

Cũng giống như nhiều người giàu nhất nước Mỹ, tỉ phú Moskovitz đã đua ra lời cam kết cho đi gần hết tiền bạc mà ông có, theo như đề xướng của ông bà Bill và Melinda Gates và ông Warren Buffett. Cô Cari Tuna, bạn gái, hôn thê sống chung của ông, cựu ký giả tờ báo Wall Street Journal chuyên về thị trường chứng khoán, hiện đang giúp ông điều hành một quĩ từ thiện đang bắt đầu hoạt động...

More than 40 of the nation's millionaires have joined Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength to ask President Obama to discontinue the tax breaks established for them during the Bush administration, as Salon reports.

"For the fiscal health of our nation and the well-being of our fellow citizens, we ask that you allow tax cuts on incomes over $1,000,000 to expire at the end of this year as scheduled," their website states. "We make this request as loyal citizens who now or in the past earned an income of $1,000,000 per year or more."

The group includes many big-time Democratic donors such as Gail Furman, trial lawyer Guy Saperstein and Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's ice cream (pictured). The list remains open to millionaires who want to sign on.

Tổng thống Obama muốn tăng thuế người giàu

Hôm nay 19.9, Tổng thống Mỹ Barack Obama sẽ trình bày dự định tăng thuế đối với nhóm công dân có thu nhập từ 1 triệu USD/năm trở lên, theo tờ The New York Times.

Quy định mới này được ông Obama gọi là “Luật Buffett”, theo tên tỉ phú Warren E.Buffett, người mới đây đã tạo nên phong trào người giàu “đòi được đóng nhiều thuế hơn” ở một số nước phương Tây.

(Reuters) - Investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft (MSFT.O) founder Bill Gates announced on Wednesday that they are asking hundreds of billionaire Americans to give away at least 50 percent of their wealth to charity.

Buffett, who made his fortune with insurance and investment company Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N) (BRKb.N), Gates and his wife, Melinda, have held a series of dinners with a couple dozen rich Americans in the past year to urge them to make a philanthropic pledge.

They have named the campaign the Giving Pledge and are asking those who commit to giving away at least half their fortune during their lifetime or after their death to publicly state their intention with a letter explaining their decision.

Patty Stonesifer, a former chief executive of the Gates Foundation and now adviser to Gates and Buffett, said that four families had agreed to announce their pledge on Wednesday -- real estate and construction billionaire Eli Broad, venture capitalist John Doerr, media entrepreneur Gerry Lenfest and former Cisco Systems (CSCO.O) Chairman John Morgridge.

Broad and his wife Edythe said in a statement that they will pledge to give away 75 percent of their wealth during and after their lifetime. Forbes has estimated Broad to be worth $5.7 billion.

"We agree with Andrew Carnegie's wisdom that 'The man who dies rich, dies disgraced,' and we also believe 'he who gives while he lives also knows where it goes,'" the couple said. "Philanthropy is unbelievably rewarding."

Lenfest has already given away more than $800 million, or about 65 percent of his fortune, a spokeswoman said. The amount pledged by Doerr and Morgridge was not immediately available.

In a letter posted on the campaign's website, www.givingpledge.org, Buffett said he "couldn't be happier" with his 2006 decision to give away 99 percent of his wealth to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and family charities...

The Giving Pledge will not accept any money; it is simply asking billionaires to make a moral commitment to give away their wealth to charity.

Zuckerberg’s donation admitted him to a group not content to leave a passive legacy after death. “This kind of involvement is unprecedented in history,” says Tom Tierney, author of Give Smart: Philanthropy that Gets Results. “And the younger these donors are when they get involved, the more they tend to give. They are willing to place big bets, because they want to see results. It makes sense; this is their own money they are giving away, not inherited wealth.”

The Giving Pledge: Billionaires Promise to Donate at Least Half Their Fortunes to Charity

At the urging of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, forty of the world's richest families have promised to give at least half of their fortunes to philanthropy.

By taking the "Giving Pledge," the forty families or individuals, most of whom are billionaires, are promising a collective sum of at least $125 billion to charitable causes, based on Forbes' current estimates of their net worth and other data sources.

On the whole, Americans have given more than $300 billion per year in recent years, though giving has declined since the start of the recession, according to the Giving USA Foundation.

"We're hoping that America, which is already the most generous society on Earth, becomes even more generous over time," Buffett told reporters on a conference call today. "More philanthropy and smarter philanthropy in the future is the goal."

Besides inspiring others to give, the pledged sums promise to make a huge impact.

"Private dollars are really special dollars because they provide the ability to innovate, to take risks, to think outside the box," said Gordon Campbell, president and CEO of United Way of New York. "Just think of the possibilities."

"I think it's a stopgap at a time when charities are facing a dip in income," said Jennifer Tierney, development director for Doctors Without Borders in the U.S. "It's a great way to fill the time between the recession and when the country gets back on its feet and your everyday American citizen is able to support in the same way that they have been able to in the past."

According to the pledge, the giving can occur either during donors' lifetimes or after their passing. Each has committed at least 50 percent of their net worth, but many have committed to larger percentages, Buffett said.

According to a recent interview, billionaire Bill Gates isn't too upset with the prospect of paying more taxes.

"The United States has a huge budget deficit, so taxes are going to have to go up," the Microsoft co-founder told the BBC. "And I certainly agree that they should go up more on the rich than everyone else. That's just justice."

With President Obama striking a populist tone in his State of the Union Address and Republicans deriding his proposal to tax millionaires at a higher rate as "the politics of envy and division," it seems clear Gates is more inclined to agree with the president on this issue.

Gates has previously advocated for a so-called "Robin Hood tax" on the trading of stocks and bonds to help fight global poverty, according to Politico.

And back in October, Gates told ABC he was "generally in favor of the idea that the rich should pay somewhat more" than everyone else.

But Gates' latest statements on taxing the rich are perhaps his strongest yet.

"I hope we can solve that deficit problem with a sense of shared sacrifice -- where everybody would feel like they're doing their part," Gates went on to tell the BBC. "And right now, I don't feel like people like myself are paying as much as we should."

(Reuters) - Nearly two-thirds of Americans support imposing a minimum tax rate of 30 percent on those who earn $1 million or more a year, according to Reuters/Ipsos poll results released on Tuesday.

The poll showed that 64 percent of those surveyed favored a "Buffett tax" as proposed by the Obama administration and named for multibillionaire investor Warren Buffett, who backs it.

The Sage of Omaha, as Buffett is sometimes known, has been a vocal advocate of higher taxes on the wealthy. Obama called for the new tax in his State of the Union speech in January.

Legislation has been filed by Democrats in Congress to enact the tax into law, but it was widely expected to languish this year with the U.S. House of Representatives under the control of Republicans who are opposed to tax increases of any kind.

The poll said that support for the Buffett tax was strongest among Democrats, at 76 percent, but also significant among Republicans, with 49 percent of them viewing it favorably.

"There is a tolerance with the American public for conversations about tax increases or changing the tax code in some way," Ipsos research director Chris Jackson said.

In a related issue, the poll said that 57 percent of Americans would support eliminating the tax deduction for mortgage interest if it resulted in a lower overall tax rate.

Once again, Democrats were more supportive, at 63 percent, while Republicans were less so, with 52 percent in support.

"People talk about taxes as if you even mention it, you're going to get run out of town on a rail, but these polling numbers indicate that Americans are actually interested in some taxes, particularly ones they think will not affect them."

The U.S. government's budget deficit is expected to swell to $1.17 trillion in the 2012 fiscal year ending in September, with some landmark decisions on tax and spending policy awaiting Congress after the November elections.

The U.S. tax code has not been overhauled in 25 years. Since then it has become riddled with deductions, exemptions and other special provisions - such as the mortgage interest deduction - that deprive the government of more than $1 trillion a year...

A study says contributions to charities by U.S. citizens, corporations and foundations rose to nearly $300 billion last year.

Giving by Americans rose four percent in 2011 from the year before, with gifts from individuals accounting for nearly three-quarters of total donations or $218 billion.

Corporate gifts remained steady at $14.5 billion.

The report, released jointly by the Giving USA Foundation and the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, says the largest recipients of donations were religious organizations, which accounted for 32 percent, or $95 billion.

Educational institutions were the second highest recipients receiving $39 billion in gifts.

The study reports increased donations to charities focusing on human services, health, arts, culture and humanities.

Jim Yunker, chairman of Giving USA, says America’s charities have been traveling down a "very rocky road" in recent years, but adds that charitable giving, like other spending categories in the average American household budget, appears to be "climbing out of the trough that resulted from the Great Recession".

The report shows that individual giving remained the same over the past three years accounting for 1.9 percent of disposable income.
