Two of those were in July and August this year, just months before she claimed to have never been offered an upgrade on a Qantas flight. A further five upgrades were on personal flights between Australia and New Zealand, including four in 2018 while she was a cabinet minister.
The independent senator David Pocock said it highlighted the need for reforming parliamentary transparency rules.
“Senator McKenzie’s failure to declare multiple upgrades would appear to constitute serious contempt under parliamentary rules,” Pocock said. “But we lack adequate accountability mechanisms to deal with such lapses in integrity.”
McKenzie, the opposition transport spokesperson, apologised on Wednesday for failing to declare 16 flight upgrades received over the last nine years, belatedly updating her official register of interests to disclose instances of business class travel.

Australia backs UN resolution demanding end to Israel occupation of Palestine

Australia has split with the US and voted with 156 other countries at the UN to demand the end of Israel’s “unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as rapidly as possible”.
A total of 157 UN member countries, including Australia, the UK and Canada, voted to support the resolution. Eight, including Argentina, Israel and the US, voted against it. Seven others abstained.
James Larsen, Australia’s ambassador to the UN, said Australia would support the resolution, titled the “Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine”, for the first time since 2001 to reflect a desire for international “momentum” towards achieving a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

More meteors can be seen when the sky is darkest after the moon sets but before the sun rises, according to Jonti Horner, professor of astrophysics at the University of Southern Queensland.
The meteor shower will reappear on Saturday night into Sunday morning, though only half as many meteors will be visible.
The Geminids, named for the neighbouring constellation, send more meteors shooting across Australia’s night sky than any other meteor shower. The second biggest, the Aquariids in May, has only about a third as many visible meteors.
The meteors come from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, which is cracking and shattering under the extreme temperatures it faces as it orbits the sun, Hill says.
“As the asteroid has orbited, it’s left dust behind like breadcrumbs and then that’s what we’re passing through now,” she says.
The Earth passes through that dust zone in December each year for about three weeks but will hit the most cluttered point over the weekend.

Tháng Mười 2024 vừa qua đặc biệt có Sao Chổi C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–Atlas) đã xuất hiện trên bầu trời Úc Châu.
Sao Chổi này là tiêu đề quốc tế vì những cảnh tượng "huy hoàng" mà nó tạo ra trên Bắc bán cầu. Người ta có thể nhìn thấy bằng mắt thường .
Là Sao Chổi mà người xưa đã nhìn thấy lần cuối vào thời kỳ đồ đá đến gần với Trái đất nhất .
Khoa học gia cũng mới phát hiện "nó" vào năm 2023 thôi và cho là nó quay quanh mặt trời sau mỗi 80,000 năm nên cả đời của nhiều người cũng không thấy được.
Vậy mà gần cuối năm 2024 nó xuất hiện ở Úc.

"Bali Nine" là tiếng lóng để gọi một nhóm tổ chức tội phạm 9 người chuyên buôn lậu ma tuý, sa lưới ở Nam Dương 2005

Cầm đầu là Andrew Chan, sinh 1984, và Myuran Sukumaran, sinh 1981, bị xử tử ngày 29 tháng Tư 2015.
7 người khác là Nguyễn Tấn Đức Thành, sinh 1983, chết vì ung thư dạ dày trong tù năm 2018, lúc 35 tuổi .
Si Yi Chen, sinh 1985, Michael Czugaj, sinh 1986, Matthew Norman, sinh 1986, Scott Rush, sinh 1985
Martin Stephens, sinh 1976, bị kết án chung thân trong khi cô Renae Lawrence, sinh 1977, bị 20 năm tù, được thả tháng 11 năm 2018.
Tháng Mười Một 2024, Thủ tướng Úc Anthony Albanese đã thương thảo tìm cách hồi hương 5 tù nhân còn lại của Bali Nine: Matthew Norman, Si Yi Chen, Martin Stephens, Scott Rush, Michael Czugaj.

Having served almost 20 years in jail in Indonesia, the men have had the rest of their life sentences commuted on humanitarian grounds on the condition that they continue rehabilitation in Australia. They are now free but are banned from returning to Indonesia. There was no diplomatic quid pro quo, Guardian Australia understands.

Không phải toàn da trắng đâu, 2 người cầm đầu đường dây buôn drugs này là người gốc Tàu Andrew Chan, sinh 1984, và gốc Ấn Độ Myuran Sukumaran, đã bị tử hình ở Nam Dương .

Đem drugs về Úc bán hại đời biết bao nhiêu người, làm ảnh hưởng tồi tệ đến toàn thể gia đình họ và cộng đồng như thất nghiệp, ăn trộm của nhà, của thiên hạ, cướp bóc, giết người, ....
Drug driving không thôi đã làm tàn phế hay giết chết bao nhiêu người vô tội, kéo theo cả thân nhân họ hàng đau khổ ....
Theo thống kê thì người lái xe khi sử dụng drugs là nguyên nhân gây ra khoảng 10-30% số ca tử vong do tai nạn giao thông ở Úc.
Luật pháp Úc trừng phạt khá nhẹ về drugs nên người từ VN qua Úc trồng cần sa có tiếng luôn !
Cần nói thêm là ở Úc có trồng drugs cho mục đích y tế nhưng có luật rõ ràng, không có lý do gì đi buôn ma tuý nha Ốc !!

PS: Tử hình không phải là phong pháp tối ưu đâu. Bảng phong thần các quốc gia vẫn còn án tử hình ở thế kỷ hiện đại này:

Mấy nước trong danh sách tử thần đó đa số là nước độc tài và nước Hồi giáo, nên tránh vô du lịch vì luật lệ của họ bất công và cổ lổ sĩ. Đấu tranh bất bạo động cũng tử hình, đồng tính cũng tử hình, ngoại tình cũng tử hình, không che đầu cũng tử hình. Chị Ba cứ áp dụng câu “nhập gia tuỳ tục” là nhập ma tẩu hoả liền.
Việt cộng đàn áp đồng bào lâu nay thì Việt kiều vẫn nhún vai biểu “nhập gia tuỳ tục” rồi hối lộ hải quan ở phi trường hai chục đô la để nhập cảnh. Nhập cảnh tuỳ hỉ.

Thầy Năm, Thầy Ốc nghĩ coi nhà nào cũng có gia phong, gia pháp của họ nói riêng, nước nào cũng có tôn giáo, luật của nước đó nói riêng, vô thì phải theo .
“Đáo giang tùy khúc, nhập gia tùy tục” (oánh lại "nhập gia" mới đúng há Ốc)
Vậy mà nhiều người đạo Hồi vào Úc trở thành công dân Úc lại muốn dân Úc theo lề lối, phong tục, đạo của họ .
Người Việt hay sắc dân khác đã bao lâu nay dù đạo gì đến mùa lễ Giáng Sinh cũng ăn mừng chơi vui vẻ, gặp người Úc, người nào cũng chúc nhau Merry Christmas, sống hoà đồng không theo thì thay vì mạnh ai nấy giữ đạo của mình, họ công khai than phiền, đòi hỏi .
Điều nực cười là một số Hội Đồng Thành Phố (chính quyền địa phương) BAN không cho chúc nhau Merry Christmas mới chán chê !!!
Bảng trang trí Giáng Sinh cắt mất chữ Christmas ra để "hoà đô`ng" với người đạo Hồi, là sao ta ?
Đúng là đi thụt lùi !
Đi "chiều chuộng" dân đạo Hồi mà cấm chúc nhau "Merry Christmas" thay vào la "happy Holidays" chi chi đó ...
Trong sở làm không ai dám chúc người đạo Hồi "Merry Christmas" họ "sinh sự" .

We’ve even had people spontaneously strip off and join us.”
Naked bike rides first took off in the early 2000s in Spain and Canada, before gaining speed and morphing into the official World Naked Bike Ride after Vancouver-based social activist Conrad Schmidt helped organise the first iteration, intended as a clothing-optional event to celebrate body positivity and to advocate for less oil-dependent transport and more cycle friendly streets in 2004.
The naked bike ride has taken place in more than 70 cities and towns globally since its inception, with this year’s locations including Byron Bay in Australia on 9 March this year, London, UK on 14 June, and Portland, Oregon, in the US on 26 July.

But George Plant, the administrator of Norfolk Island, disputed the data. He told the Guardian: “There are no known exports from Norfolk Island to the United States and no tariffs or known non-tariff trade barriers on goods coming to Norfolk Island.”

Suzanne Rees was on the second day of a luxury 60-day circumnavigation of Australia when she disembarked the Coral Adventurer at Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef on Saturday morning. She and other passengers had intended to hike the island’s Cook’s Look mountain.
Unknown to cruise staff and passengers, Rees, from Sydney, did not make it back to the ship before it left the island that afternoon. Her body was found the next day.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said the Coral Adventurer’s master had notified the authority of the incident at 9pm on Saturday. Amsa then initiated a response and assisted Queensland police in a land and sea search for Suzanne Rees.

Chuyện bình thường mà cưng, khi bác sĩ khám sức khoẻ, thấy người nào già quá, có bệnh, vấn đề sức khoẻ sẽ đề nghị "lấy bằng lái" luôn .
Già mà vẫn còn gân, cứ lái xe , còn hơn khối người trẻ, trung niên hút, chích rồi ra lái xe, hay lái ẩu tả mới ghê !! Xảy một ly đi mấy mạng.
Ở Đức không có bác sĩ khám vụ bằng lái khi già. Ai muốn lái xe đến tuổi con hạc, con rùa đều cứ lái. Hễ gây tai nạn thì bị trừ điểm trong kho điểm của mình tự động. Bị trừ hết điểm thì bị giựt bằng lái. Phải thi lại lý thuyết và chứng minh có lấy lại mấy giờ lái xe.
Riêng về kinh nghiệm, thì ông già mình hồi xưa lúc cụ 80 tuổi, lái xe phát thinh tới đèn đỏ ổng không ngừng mà chạy luôn. Tui ngồi kế bên sợ quá trời. Về nhà mới lập mưu, gọi anh chị em hết về. Nói to nói nhỏ, nói ngon nói ngọt, con cháu xung phong làm tài xế mỗi khi ông già muốn đi đâu mà không đi xe điện, xe buýt luôn.
Cũng may mắn là ông già nghĩ thông. Không gàn, bướng (ừa, người càng già, tính khí càng trở về tuổi "teen"). Chỉ có một buổi trà đàm sau bữa ăn tối mà thuyết phục được ông già giao chìa khóa chiếc mercedes thời ông Bành ông Tổ luôn mới oách. :)
Còn vụ bà Úc tử vong là điều đáng tiếc. Nhưng thực ra nghe nói khu vực đảo đó là chỗ thần tiên. Rất là đẹp luôn. Cho nên chết ở thiên đàng, là diễm phúc rồi. Con cháu không nên truy hỏi gì nữa. Lúc đi chơi không lo, lúc bà cụ đi bán muối rồi mới tra vấn trách nhiệm bên chiếc tàu thì được chi đâu. Bà già đã chết ở thiên đàng.

Dạ, ở Úc cũng không có hạn chế đến tuổi nào không được lái xe đâu anh Năm, luật mỗi tiểu bang có vu vi khác nhau .
Riêng ở Nam Úc thì 90 tuổi hay hơn vẫn lái xe được nếu còn ...gân, ngược lại mấy mươi mà không còn đủ sức khoẻ, bị lấy bằng, treo bằng thì không cho cầm vô lăng .
Bất cứ ai không còn tự tin để lái xe thì tự ý thức không lái nữa . Ở đây nhiều người Việt chỉ lái loanh quanh khu họ ở, không dám lái ra City vô carpark vì ớn .
Ai có bệnh ảnh hưởng lái xe thì phải khai báo.
Trường hợp bác sĩ chỉ quan ngại sức khoẻ của người nào thì người ấy phải "test" thực hành như đi thi bằng lái .
Còn sức khoẻ ai đã đến mức tệ không còn lái xe an toàn được thì bs đề nghị lấy bằng lái luôn .
Xe thường- 75 tuổi trở lên thì hàng năm làm bản tự khai coi còn "khoẻ" để lái xe .
Xe phân khối lớn - 70 tuổi trở lên cần đi bác sĩ khám hàng năm coi còn đủ sức khoẻ, thị lực để lái.
Cao tuổi mà còn lái xe là còn bị áp lực, ông cụ nhà anh Năm thức thời vậy ta.
Vụ bà Úc tử vong chắc gia đình sẽ thưa đòi bồi thường, dễ gì thân nhân cho qua.
Gần đây TL biết một trường hợp bệnh nhân cao niên qua đời bất ngờ trong bệnh viện. Theo luật, coroner phải khám tử thi để cho giấy báo tử qua đời tự nhiên hay vì lý do khác .
Báo cáo kết quả từ coroner là không thể cho giấy báo tử "natural cause of death" mà "inquest" vì bị y tá nhà thương chích thuốc mê 1 mũi vẫn thấy bệnh nhân chưa chịu ...mê, nên tử tế chích thêm, bị quá nhiều nên bệnh nhân đi " pushing up daisies " luôn !
Thân nhân không có ý thưa gửi gì hết, tuy vậy theo luật thân nhân vẫn phải có mặt ở một phiên toà "inquest", ngày sẽ được định và thông báo sau.

In a series of online videos, the social media star, known online as the Bush Legend, walks through dense forests or drives along deserted roads on the hunt for wedge-tailed eagles. Many of the videos are set to pulsating percussion instruments and yidakis (didgeridoo).
His voice sounds like a cross between Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis and Steve Irwin. His speech is peppered with “mate” and “crikey” as he passionately shares snippets with thousands of his followers about Australian wildlife – from venomous snakes and crocodiles to redback spiders and the elusive night parrots, once thought extinct.
But none of it is real. The wildlife and the man presenting them are all creations of AI. As of this week, the Bush Legend account has 90,000 followers on Instagram and 96,000 on Facebook. It says its focus is on building awareness and education about Australian wildlife.

AMP’s head of investment strategy and chief economist, Shane Oliver, says in a “normal crisis” the US dollar would go up due to being a traditional safe haven.
“The difference is that this period of uncertainty was at its core seen as negative for the US,” says Oliver.
“Each time Trump does one of these erratic things, starting with the tariffs last year, attack on the Fed, attack on universities, attack on immigrants, attack on the rule of law and attack on global institutions, US exceptionalism is eroded and investors demand a risk premium to invest in the US.
“This puts downward pressure on the US dollar.”

A seatbelt detection camera captured the car travelling on the Great Western Highway at Mount Lambie, about 120km west of Sydney, at 1.35am on Saturday 7 March with the “unrestrained child” sitting on the man’s lap, police alleged in a statement on Monday.
After inquiries, officers attended the man’s home at Lightning Ridge on Wednesday 11 March and spoke to him.
He was then issued with a court notice and charged with four counts, including driving recklessly or dangerously, negligent driving, driving without proper control of a vehicle and driving with a passenger seatbelt not properly fastened.
In 2017, a 12-year-old boy was stopped by police after trying to drive solo across Australia, having already covered 1,300km.

For $400,000, buyers will get the Foxtrap Roadhouse, a four-bedroom home, and the keys to the town. It’s a far cry from the $935,000 median price for a cramped Sydney unit.
Cooladdi – whose name reportedly stems from a local Indigenous word for “black duck” – is one of Australia’s smallest towns. Its official status is anchored by the local post office, which operates out of the roadhouse. Because of this, Cooladdi retains its own postcode: 4479.
It wasn’t always this quiet. Cooladdi was once a bustling railway hub with a population that peaked at roughly 270. But as the local sheep industry shrank and the trains eventually stopped coming, the town slowly emptied out. The school closed its doors for good in 1974.
The new owners will wear many hats. Running Cooladdi means serving as the postie, the publican, the cook and the shopkeeper.

Anthony Albanese has appointed Australia’s first female army chief in a major shake-up only days after the Australian Defence Force was rocked by the arrest of Ben Roberts-Smith.
Lieutenant General Susan Coyle was named as the new Chief of Army on Monday.
She takes over from Lieutenant General Simon Stuart AO, who had served in the role since 2022.

Skymagic, the UK-based operator of the drone show, said in a statement that an “unforeseen change in the radio frequency environment occurring after take-off” compromised the positional accuracy of the fleet.
While the pilot team managed to lock the main fleet stationary in the air to evaluate the situation, the drones experiencing issues encountered the geofence boundary.
The drone show was scrapped last year amid concerns over crowd control issues but it returned this year heralded as Australia’s “most extensive” event of its kind. It features 1,000, purpose-built drones made specifically for large-scale aerial displays.

The drama unfolded at Rocklea in Brisbane’s south on Wednesday evening. A blue Toyota Yaris hit a traffic island and was catapulted into the air before smashing into the side of the council bus. The back of the car was left protruding from the bus.
Brisbane City council said there were no passengers on the bus at the time, the ABC reported.
A person who filmed the aftermarth of the crash from a passing car struggled to process what they were seeing. “There’s literally a car in the bus,” they said. “A car in the bus. Guys, a car in the bus.”
