Khủng hoảng biếm họa: Thủ tướng Canada kêu gọi sử dụng thận trọng quyền tự do ngôn luận
https://s.rfi.fr/media/display/c7177...00_8U9338.webp

https://s.rfi.fr/media/display/c438b...attaque_0.webp

DC’s Emotional Covid Memorial Installation
https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/1...t-rfk-stadium/
Quote:
Around 228,000 flags now flutter in memory of the lives lost to Covid at Washington artist Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg’s installation “In America How Could This Happen…” and between now and the end of the project next week, the evolving memorial needs visitors to plant thousands more pennants to match the ever-rising death toll.
So far, visitors have added around 63,000 flags to the original 165,000, but as the number of deaths continues to increase, so does the number of flags needed in the installation. As of today, there have been 229,293 Covid deaths the United States, according to the Johns Hopkins’ Covid tracker (the counter Firstenberg is referencing). That means the installation needs about 1,293 more flags to be planted just to keep up with today’s deaths.

U.S. states votes legalizing marijuana to drive growth despite election uncertainty
(Reuters) - Votes to legalize marijuana on Tuesday by a handful more U.S. states should spur further development of the industry and possibly bring changes at a federal level, even if pro-decriminalization candidate Joe Biden loses his bid for the White House, according to industry executives and analysts.
Consumer demand and the promise of tax revenue are leading more states to embrace pot, which then leads other states to follow suit, making what happens at the local level more important, they said.
Shares of U.S. companies with footprints in multiple states, including Curaleaf Holdings Inc CURA.CD, Cresco Labs Ltd CL.CD and Green Thumb Industries Inc GTII.CD, were all up on Wednesday after voters in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey and South Dakota chose to legalize recreational use.
The votes should add steam to an industry now pushing hard for new federal legislation.
“The momentum of the legal industry will likely remain unchanged regardless of the election outcome,” said Matt Hawkins, founder and managing partner at cannabis-focused private equity firm Entourage Effect Capital.
“As long as there is strong consumer demand, the industry will continue its upward growth trajectory and the pathway to legalization will likely speed up regardless.”
For example, approval in New Jersey is expected to open up other eastern states, such as New York and Pennsylvania, said Salvator Armenia, vice president of business development at producer C21 investments CXXI.CD. Those states and nearby Connecticut already allow marijuana sales for medical purposes.
Tuesday’s votes takes the tally of U.S. states where recreational use will be legal to 15 plus the District of Columbia. Mississippi voters also backed legalizing cannabis for medical use, while Oregon voters approved legalizing the psychoactive substance psilocybin found in “magic mushrooms.”
The “total addressable market” in those five states alone is considered to be as large the entire Canadian cannabis market, worth a potential $5 billion to $9 billion annually, Armenia said.
The path to federal legislation that would allow cannabis companies to bank and trade freely is still unclear, with Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a major opponent. Republicans appear poised to retain control of the senate.
Michael Underhill, chief investment officer at Capital Innovations, cautioned that several bills would need to pass before U.S. companies found themselves on the same regulatory playing field as their Canadian counterparts.
CLOSER TO ACCEPTANCE
In last month’s debate with Vice President Mike Pence, Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris said marijuana would be decriminalized at a federal level under a Biden administration.
“Each election cycle cannabis comes closer to federal acceptance, and this election is pivotal to those goals,” said Cynthia Salarizadeh, founder and president of House of Saka, a cannabis-infused beverages business.
Cannabis sales have surged with people stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic. In California, sales data for August showed a 26% jump over the past year, while sales in Nevada were up 34%, according to BDS Analytics.
Alcohol and tobacco companies have taken notice, with some investing in the sector. Drinks maker Constellation Brands STZ.N has a stake in Canopy Growth Corp WEED.TOCGC.N, while Marlboro maker Altria MO.N has a stake in Cronos Group Inc CRON.TO.
Still, federal decriminalization, or legalization in more states, would not be without challenges, investors said. Many point to Canada as an example.
Though the country became the first G-20 nation to legalize recreational use of cannabis in 2018, regulatory hiccups in Canadian dispensary rollouts, slow international legalization, and a lack of profitability sent investors packing over the next year. That left most companies at a fraction of their market values by the beginning of 2020.
Shares of Canada-based pot producers and distributors, including Canopy, Cronos, Aurora Cannabis ACB.N and Tilray TLRY.O all fell on Wednesday as the chances of a swift victory for Biden faded.

Brazil's Bolsonaro, a Trump fan, urged to refrain from hasty U.S. election comment
By Lisandra Paraguassu
BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been advised by domestic aides to wait until U.S. election results are official before congratulating his political idol Donald Trump on a win, even if either candidate declares himself winner beforehand, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Bolsonaro, a far-right populist, has modeled himself on the U.S. president and delights in being called the “Tropical Trump.” The U.S. leader has not completely redrawn U.S.-Brazil relations in the way Brasilia may have hoped, but he represents a key ideological ally for Bolsonaro.
If Joe Biden wins, the Democrat could put the environment and human rights at the top of the bilateral agenda, complicating relations and jeopardizing trade, diplomats and analysts have told Reuters.
Americans cast votes on Tuesday in the bitterly contested presidential election. But it could be days before the result is known, especially if legal challenges focused on ballots sent by mail are accepted in the event of a tight race.
As a result, diplomats and aides have urged Bolsonaro to avoid making statements on the result, even if Trump or Biden declare themselves the victor, one of the sources said.
“The recommendation is not to say anything until we have a definitive result,” the source said.
Prime ministers and presidents around the world are facing the same delicate question. “We may be sitting on our hands for a while after election day,” said the foreign policy adviser to one northern European leader.
On Tuesday, Bolsonaro met with Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo, his strategic advisor Flávio Rocha, and with his international advisor Filipe Martins to define their election result strategy.
Bolsonaro also suggested, without evidence, that there could be foreign interference both in the U.S. election, and in Brazil’s 2022 vote, in which he is almost certain to seek re-election.
He wrote in a tweet that the U.S. elections “arouse global interests... because they influence the geopolitics and projection of world power... There is always a strong suspicion of interference by other powers in the final result.”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on Tuesday that there had so far been no indications of digital foreign interference with ballots.

Twitter Permanently Suspends Steve Bannon Account After Talk Of Beheading Dr. Fauci, FBI Director
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF / CNN) — San Francisco-based Twitter permanently suspended an account belonging to former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon after he suggested Thursday morning that Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded. His comments were made in a video posted to his Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter accounts.
Bannon falsely claimed President Donald Trump had won reelection, despite several key states still being too close to call, and said that he should fire both Fauci and Wray.
He then said he would go further: “I’d put the heads on pikes. Right. I’d put them at the two corners of the White House as a warning to federal bureaucrats. You either get with the program or you are gone.”

Dr. Jill Biden Will Continue to Teach When She Becomes First Lady: 'It's Important'
"I want people to value teachers and know their contributions," she said earlier this year

Editor's note: On Saturday, The Associated Press projected that Joe Biden had defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Biden's wife, former Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, will succeed Melania Trump as first lady. The below article was originally published on Aug. 9.
Dr. Jill Biden plans to continue working as an educator if she becomes the first lady.
In a new profile for CBS Sunday Morning, the former second lady said that even if her husband, Joe Biden, wins the presidency in the upcoming election, she wants to continue teaching.
"I hope so. I would love to," the community college teacher said when asked if she would continue teaching as the first lady. "If we get to the White House, I’m going to continue to teach. It’s important, and I want people to value teachers and know their contributions and lift up their profession."
Dr. Biden, who has a doctorate in education, has been a teacher for 36 years and continued teaching while serving as the second lady during Barack Obama's presidency.
“I want to do what I love,” she told PEOPLE in 2009 after beginning her new job as an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College shortly after moving to Washington D.C. for her husband's new role as Vice President.
“I knew if I let any time-lapse, I would be sucked into Joe’s life. I can have my own job, my own life, but also work on issues,” she said at the time. “I can have it all, really.”

Former Vice President Biden also appeared in the new CBS profile and raved about his wife of 43 years.
"I adore her. I’m gonna sound so stupid, I was saying the other day, when she comes down the steps and I look at her my heart still skips a beat," the presidential hopeful, 77, said.
As Biden gears up to announce his highly anticipated female running mate, he said there's no one he turns to advice more than his wife. "What Jill is best at helping me do is figure out who the people around me would be most compatible with me," he said. "She knows me better than I know me."
"We’ve talked about the different women candidates but it’s gotta be Joe’s decision," Dr. Biden said in her CBS interview. "Who he feels most comfortable with, who shares his values. And that’s what he’s always said that’s what he and Barack had."
Dr. Biden also recently wrote a children’s book about her husband, Joey: The Story of Joe Biden, which documents the former vice president’s childhood.
“He had to overcome a lot of hardship, he was bullied as a child, and so he knows what it feels for other kids to be bullied,” she said of her husband. “He stood up to the bullies and he stood up to the bullies who bullied other kids, so I think that he's resilient. I want people to know that he's empathetic because of what he's been through in life, and that he's a leader, of course.”

Chúc mọi người an bình .
9/ Maintain tài khoản an ninh nội địa để chống: khủng bố, cướp bóc, phá hoại
Công ăn việc làm sẽ follow up …

US Postal Service 'whistleblower,' cited by Republicans and right-wing activists as evidence of election tampering, retracts his claims, officials say

- A US Postal Service employee whose claims of electoral fraud were circulated by Project Veritas, a right-wing activist group specializing in disinformation, has recanted, The Washington Post reported.
- Richard Hopkins, a USPS employee in Pennsylvania, admitted to investigators that he lied when claiming his boss had ordered him to collect mail-in ballots after Election Day, according to The Post and the House Oversight Committee.
- The original claim had been cited by Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, who called for a federal investigation.
To Sen. Lindsey Graham, the allegations were credible, troubling, and deserving of a federal investigation. A Pennsylvania postal worker, in a signed affidavit lending it the appearance of legitimacy, alleged that his boss directed him "to pick up ballots after Election Day" and "make it appear as though the ballots had been collected on Nov. 3."
In a statement last week, Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, said it was "imperative" to investigate the charge, and that he would be asking the Department of Justice to do just that.
The claim, however, was false, The Washington Post reported. On Monday, the purported whistleblower, Richard Hopkins, told the US Postal Service's Office of Inspector General "that the allegations were not true, and he signed an affidavit recanting his claims," The Post reported, citing sources involved in the investigation.
The House Oversight Committee confirmed the revelation on Twitter, saying that the Inspector General's office had informed the panel that Hopkins, who was interviewed last Friday, had admitted to making the story up, though he "did not explain why he signed a false affidavit."
After providing his affidavit to Project Veritas, a right-wing activist group specializing in distorted videos and other disinformation, a GoFundMe page set up in Hopkins' name raised over $135,000.
That page was removed soon after The Post's story went live. GoFundMe did not immediately return a request for comment. In a statement to The Post, GoFundMe said the funds were "not disbursed and Hopkins never had access to the funds."
Hopkins also posted a YouTube video on Tuesday night denying that he recanted his claims.
Kevin Bishop, a spokesperson for Sen. Graham, told Business Insider not to expect an immediate comment from his boss, but linked to the Project Veritas video, posted Tuesday night, where Hopkins denies retracting his claims.
Over the weekend, Erie, Pennsylvania's postmaster, Robert Weisenbach, called Hopkins' initial claims of voter fraud "100% false."
"Good evening my friends," Weisenbach wrote on Facebook, according to local news outlet GoErie.com. "There has been awful things posted about the USPS and here is my statement. The allegations made against me and the Erie Post Office are 100% false made by an employee that was recently disciplined multiple times."

A TikTok creator says he made a fake voter fraud video that went viral and was shared by Rudy Giuliani
https://i.insider.com/5faae92ef7d1cb...jpeg&auto=webp
- As President Donald Trump continues to baselessly allege that he lost the election to President-elect Joe Biden due to voter fraud, videos falsely purporting to show voter fraud keep going viral.
- Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal attorney, retweeted one such video on Tuesday that a TikToker said on Facebook was made in jest.
- The video, which shows a man claiming to rip up a ballot for "Donald J. Dumb Trump," is going viral on several platforms.
President Donald Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani and right-wing influencers shared a TikTok video as evidence of voter fraud, but the video was created as a joke by a prankster, the TikToker said.
The viral video was first posted on TikTok by the user @bigchoppadoe last week. In the clip, a man wearing a neon yellow vest rips up what he says is a ballot for "Donald J. Dumb Trump." The words "Send viral" with a laughing emoji are laid over the video. The original video has since been made private on TikTok, but screen recordings of the clips continue to circulate on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, Insider found on Tuesday.
The TikTok user was identified by Heavy and Reuters as Dale Harrison, whose Facebook page has pictures that match his identity in the video. Harrison, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, made his TikTok account private, but the video is still circulating via screen-recordings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA0hKNcod24
On Monday, Harrison wrote on Facebook that he made the video because he is "always joking" and said he wore his uniform from his job at Amazon. Other pictures posted by Harrison on Facebook appear to show him working in an Amazon warehouse.
Giuliani, who is leading President Donald Trump's baseless search for evidence of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, appeared to believe the video was evidence of foul play. He retweeted a version of the video shared by actress and producer Kaya Jones, that was quote-tweeted by radio host David Webb. Jones' tweet was later appended with a label from Twitter, warning that the "claim about election fraud had been disputed."
As of Tuesday evening, the tweet that Giuliani retweeted — Webb's quote tweet — has been deleted. But the original version of the video retweeted by Giuliani, who has 995,000 Twitter followers, has more than 168,000 views as of Tuesday evening, 14 hours after it was posted.
It was not Giuliani's first time being pranked in recent history. Just a few weeks ago, the "Borat" sequel depicted Trump's personal lawyer being tricked into an interview by actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Maria Bakalova.
Tito Ortiz, a conservative influencer with 340,000 followers on his verified Instagram page, posted the video on Instagram on Monday. "The integrity of this country has been compromised! The truth will set us Free," he said in the post's caption.
Tomi Lahren, a conservative commentator, commented, "Disgusting." Steve Chavez Lodge, a conservative Instagrammer is mostly known for his relationship with a "Real Housewives of Orange County" star, also weighed in. "Unfortunately, I think this is probably the norm and not unusual other than him filming himself," Lodge said.
https://i.insider.com/5faad101f7d1cb...jpeg&auto=webp
Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, labeled the post as "False Information" and is leading readers to a Reuters fact-check of the video. Ortiz's post alone had nearly 200,000 views as of Tuesday afternoon, less than one day after he posted it.
The TikTok video is one of many phony clips going viral within right-wing social media circles, as supporters of President Trump allege that President-elect Joe Biden won the election through fraudulent means.
Many influential figures in Trump's orbit, including Giuliani and his sons, Eric and Donald Jr., have spread similar fake claims. On Wednesday, Eric Trump retweeted a video that purported to show the burning of 80 ballots in Virginia Beach, but election officials said the now-deleted video was fake, CNN reported.

US election security officials reject Trump's fraud claims
https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cp...57b7bbe415.jpg
Reuters - A Biden supporter at a "stop the steal" rally in Wisconsin
US federal election officials have said the 2020 White House vote was the "most secure in American history" - rejecting President Donald Trump's fraud claims.
"There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised," the committee announced.
They spoke out after Mr Trump claimed without proof 2.7m votes for him were "deleted" in last week's election.
He has yet to concede to the projected winner, Democrat Joe Biden.
What did the election officials say?
A Department of Homeland Security unit that worked on safeguarding US voting systems for the 3 November presidential election issued a joint statement on Thursday.
The committee of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa) said: "While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too.
"When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections."
The head of Cisa, Christopher Krebs, has said he expects to be fired by the Trump administration, according to Reuters news agency.
It reported that Mr Krebs had incurred the White House's displeasure over a Cisa website called Rumor Control, which debunks election misinformation.
On Thursday, Mr Krebs shared a post by an election law expert that said: "Please don't retweet wild and baseless claims about voting machines, even if they're made by the president."
Cisa assistant director Bryan Ware stepped down on Thursday. The White House had asked for his resignation earlier this week, reports Reuters.
How are Republicans reacting?
A small but growing number of Republicans are backing calls for President-elect Joe Biden to be given daily intelligence briefings.
Lindsey Graham, a key Trump ally, was among those saying Mr Biden should get the secret presidential memo, as is usual with incoming presidents.
But most Republicans in Congress are standing by Mr Trump in refusing to acknowledge Mr Biden's victory.
The result was called by US media last weekend but some counting continues.
Mr Trump has launched a flurry of legal challenges to projected results in key states and levelled unsubstantiated allegations of widespread electoral fraud.
He tweeted on Thursday that voting software used in 28 states had deleted millions of votes for him, but presented no evidence for the stunning claim
On Thursday, the Democrats' House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the "absurd circus" meant the coronavirus pandemic was being neglected, and she and other top Democrats urged Republicans to "accept reality".
Between 10 and 20 Republicans in Congress have now either congratulated Mr Biden or accepted there must be moves towards a transition. But most have yet to acknowledge the president-elect's win.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons told CNN some Republicans had been asking him to congratulate Mr Biden on their behalf because they did not feel able to do so publicly.
Senator Graham was among those saying Mr Biden should get the top secret daily document the president is given. Chuck Grassley, John Cornyn and John Thune agreed, although House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Mr Biden was "not president right now" and should wait.
Why are Republicans holding back?
The Democratic Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said they were "deliberately casting doubt on our elections for no other reason but fear of Donald Trump".
Capitol Hill reporters say Republican lawmakers are anxious not to alienate the Trump base, given that the president just won more votes than any incumbent ever, even though he is projected to lose.
Party bigwigs are also said to be hoping that Mr Trump will help campaign for two Senate run-off elections in January in Georgia that will decide whether Republicans retain control of the upper chamber.
Mr Biden is 5.2m votes ahead of Mr Trump - about 3.4% - and has enough electoral votes needed in the state-by-state Electoral College to take the presidency.
What has Biden been up to?
On Thursday he spoke with Pope Francis, who offered Mr Biden his "blessings and congratulations". Mr Biden will be only the second Roman Catholic president of the US.
He also spoke with congressional Democratic leadership about the need for a coronavirus stimulus package as the daily US caseload from the disease soared to a new record of more than 150,000.
He spent the day huddled with his transition team in Wilmington, Delaware, where he had been planning cabinet appointments.
On Wednesday he picked veteran Democratic operative Ron Klain to be his White House chief of staff.

A record number of people in the US are currently hospitalized with COVID-19
https://i.insider.com/5faddf674652d4...jpeg&auto=webp
More people than ever are currently hospitalized in the US due to the coronavirus, and a record of 150,526 new cases were reported on Thursday, according to data from The Covid Tracking Project. This week alone, one out over 378 US residents has tested positive for COVID-19, the group said.
Over 1,100 new deaths were also reported on Nov. 12. Over the last week, an average of 1,052 people died each day from COVID-19.
This number of people currently hospitalized, as reported by The COVID Tracking Project, 67,096, is nearly double what it was two weeks ago.
"The current national case surge has been underway for nine weeks," The Covid Tracking Project said in a blog post explaining the new data, "hospitalizations have risen for seven weeks, and deaths have risen for five."
Cases are also increasing at the fastest rate since the pandemic began, and not just because there is more testing. Indeed, the number of cases reported this week is up 41% from last, compared to a 13% increase in new tests.
Over 234,000 people have now died from the coronavirus. By Dec. 5, that number could be as high as 282,000, according to an analysis by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

70% of Republicans say election wasn't 'free and fair' despite no evidence of fraud – study
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...dy-republicans
Quote:
According to a new survey, 70% of Republicans do not believe the presidential election was “free and fair”, even though multiple news outlets have called it for Joe Biden. There has been a dramatic decline in Republican voters’ faith in the system. Before the election, in the same Politico/Morning Consult poll, 35% of Republicans thought the vote would not be free and fair.
More Democrats voiced trust in the election, 90% saying they thought the results were “free and fair”, up 52% from the pre-election poll.
Among Republicans who thought the election wasn’t fair, 78% thought mail-in ballots spurred extensive voter fraud, while 72% believed ballot tampering occurred.

The 'dead voters' in Michigan who are still alive
https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cp...ertogarcia.jpg
Roberto Garcia - Roberto Garcia told us: "I'm definitely alive and I definitely voted for Biden!"
Donald Trump's supporters have claimed that thousands of votes were cast in the US election using the names of people who had died.
"I may be 72," Maria Arredondo from Michigan told us when we called her. "But I'm alive and breathing. My mind is working fine and I'm healthy."
Maria said she had voted for Joe Biden and was surprised to hear that her name had appeared on a list of supposedly dead voters in the state.
We spoke to other people in similar situations to that of Maria in Michigan and found similar stories.
There have been occasions in previous US elections of dead people having apparently voted.
This could happen through clerical errors or perhaps other family members with similar names voting with their ballots, but Trump supporters have alleged this has happened on a massive scale at this election.
We set out to find out whether there is evidence for this claim.
10,000 'dead absentee voters' in Michigan?
The story starts with a list of around 10,000 names posted on Twitter by a Trump-supporting activist.
https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cp...tweet-2-nc.png
It purports to be of people who have died, but who have also voted in the presidential election in Michigan.
Claims such as this have been repeated many times on different social-media platforms, including by Republican legislators.
The list of 10,000 contains the name, zip code, and the date a ballot was received. It then lists a full date of birth and a full date of death. Some of the people supposedly died more than 50 years ago.
Michigan has a database that lets you enter someone's name, zip code, month of birth and year of birth and allows you to see if they voted by absentee ballot this year. So you can easily check whether people on the list voted.
There are also several US websites that include databases of death records.
But there's a fundamental problem with this list of 10,000.
With an exercise like this you are going to find false matches - somebody born in January 1940 voted in Michigan in the election, and there was somebody born somewhere else in the US in January 1940 who has the same name and is now dead. This will happen a lot in in a country as big as the US (328 million people), and particularly with common names.
To test the list, we picked 30 names at random. To this we added the oldest person on the list.
Of this list of 31 names, we managed to speak directly to 11 people (or to a family member, neighbour or care home worker) to confirm they were still alive.
For 17 others, there was no public record of their death, and we found clear evidence that they were alive after the alleged date of death on the list of 10,000. A clear pattern emerged - the wrong records had been joined together to create a false match.
Finally, we found that three people on the list were indeed dead. We examine these cases later.

What we discovered
The first thing we did was to check the official Michigan electoral database to see whether our 31 individuals had sent in ballots - they all had.
We then looked at the death records and quickly became suspicious on seeing that the vast majority did not die in Michigan, but elsewhere in the US.

Supporters of Donald Trump claimed they had a list of dead people who had voted in the election
We wondered whether we could find people of the same name currently living in Michigan.
Checking Michigan state public records, cross-referencing voter postal codes, we were able to find precise dates of birth for those who had voted - and as we had anticipated, they failed to match the dates of birth on the death records.
So we could be confident that we were dealing with two sets of people - those who had voted and those with the same name and age who had died elsewhere.
But what we really wanted to do was to speak to the voters themselves.
'I'm alive!'
We called Roberto Garcia, a retired teacher in Michigan. He told us: "I'm definitely alive and I definitely voted for Biden - I would have to have been dead to vote for Trump."
We also found a 100-year-old woman who, according to the "dead voter" list, had died in 1982. She was alive and is currently living in a nursing home in Michigan.
But the results of our search weren't always so straightforward.
When we looked for another centenarian, who according to the list had died in 1977, we found that she had still been alive when her postal ballot was returned in September. However, a neighbour told us the woman had died just a few weeks ago. We also found a matching obituary from October to confirm this.
If a voter dies before election day after submitting their ballot, the Michigan authorities say the ballot will be rejected.
We have not been able to establish whether her ballot was counted.

Getty Images -Votes were still being tallied as unproven claims of fraud went viral
For those we couldn't reach by phone, we wanted to use other means to confirm they were alive.
These included public records of, for example, business activities, from state and local authorities.
For one woman who was supposed to have died in 2006 we found an annual company statement signed under her name from January 2020.
Two other men on our list of 31 died some time ago, yet votes had been cast in their names - with the correct postcodes and years of birth - according to the voting database.
We found that for both men, there were sons with the same name currently registered at the same address as their deceased fathers.
In both cases, a ballot was sent in for the dead fathers.
Local election officials told us that one of the votes had been counted but there was no record of the son having voted.
In the other, it was the son who actually voted, but it had been recorded as the father's due to a clerical error.

'It's simply a matter of statistics'
Our selection of 31 cases is only a small sample of the 10,000 names on the list, but it has clearly revealed the flaws in the database shared by Trump supporters.
From our investigation it's clear that in almost all of our 31 test cases, the data for genuine voters in Michigan has been combined with records of dead people with the same name and birth month and year from across the United States to yield false matches.
"If the lists are linked based on name and birth date alone, in a state the size of Michigan, you're guaranteed to get false positives," says Prof Justin Levitt, an expert on the law of democracy.
It's known as the birthday problem - the high probability that two students in the same class share the same birthday.
So if you compare millions of voters in Michigan with a database of deaths across the United States you're bound to find cross-over, particularly if the voter database doesn't include the day of the month on which a person is born.
"It's simply a matter of statistics that if you cross-reference millions of records with millions of other records, you'll get a sizable number of false positive matches. We've seen this before," says Prof Justin Levitt.
With her vote safely cast, and counted, Maria Arredondo tells us she's looking forward to the new administration.
"He was a great vice-president under Obama. I'm so pleased. A weight has lifted off my shoulders."
