Để xây dựng một cầu vượt đi bộ phải tốn 1-2 tỷ đồng nhưng tại Sài Gòn hiệu quả các công trình này rất hạn chế, gây lãng phí lớn. Trong khi đó, ngành giao thông đang tiếp tục dự định xây thêm một số cầu bộ hành nhằm giảm ùn tắc và tai nạn. Hiện có 6 cầu: Cống Quỳnh (trước Bệnh viện Từ Dũ, quận1), Nơ Trang Long (Bệnh viện Ung Bướu), Văn Thánh (Bình Thạnh), Suối Tiên (Thủ Đức), Nguyễn Trãi (quận 5), Hoàng Văn Thụ (Phú Nhuận). Tuy nhiên, do thói quen của dân đô thị muốn cho nhanh/ tiện/lười biếng leo nên rất ít người chịu sử dụng cầu; trừ...cầu tiêu.
