The scam dated back to February 2023, when Anne, who had been married to a wealthy entrepreneur, joined Instagram in order to share pictures of a skiing holiday in the French Alps.

On her return, she was contacted on the social network by someone posing as Jane Pitt, the actor’s mother, who began chatting to her and said she would be a good match for her son.

Then another account got in touch claiming to be the actor himself. His mother had told him all about her, the person said. “I’d like to know more about you,” read one message to Anne. “But I’d like to know whether you work in the media as I’m protective of my private life.”

Among the things Anne discussed with the person claiming to be Pitt was her large divorce settlement payment. She then received AI-generated pictures of the actor apparently in hospital, with requests to her to pay for his kidney treatment. She transferred hundreds of thousands of euros for supposed medical costs.

The 40-year-old Hungarian man was having a cigarette on a platform in Bavaria when the train doors shut, prompting him to jump on to the bracket between two carriages.

He spent the next 20 miles gripping on to cables before the train was brought to a controlled stop after witnesses had spotted him and alerted authorities.

Police arrested him in the Bavarian town of Kinding before the train continued north. The man was being investigated
for financial impropriety since he did not have a valid ticket, federal police said, as well as for acts that disturb normal operations.

In 2017, a 59-year-old man likewise survived clinging to the side of the Hannover-Bielefeld Express train for 15 miles.

Nearly 500 cat figurines were stolen in one week from Gordon Ramsay’s new London restaurant, the TV chef has said.

The restaurateur recently launched Lucky Cat 22 in one of London’s tallest buildings, which features the beckoning Japanese cat models called maneki-neko.

Ramsay said: “The cats are getting stolen. There were 477 stolen last week – they cost £4.50 each.”

A cliff on the edge of the Yangtze River has become an overnight sensation in China after a Shanghai-based designer posted a photo of it earlier this month likening it to a dog.

Guo’s post on the Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu, or RedNote, received 120,000 likes in 10 days. The hashtag #xiaogoushan, Chinese for “puppy mountain”, also drew millions of views on the media platform Weibo.

The mountain is in Yichang’s Zigui county, where it can be seen from an observation deck.

Ne Zha smashes global box office records

Ne Zha 2 has also broken records globally: it is the highest-grossing animated film worldwide, surpassing Pixar’s Inside Out 2.
