Now a leading Beethoven expert has come to the conclusion that there never was an Elise – or at least not one that Beethoven knew.

Asked what Beethoven would have made of this discovery, he said: “I think he would have roared with laughter at academics devoting their whole careers to discovering who was an Elise who never existed.”

The two-lane road near Tracy, a city in the Central valley, collapsed earlier this month following weeks of destructive storms that wreaked havoc across the state.

The damage and signs warning of the road’s closure didn’t stop drivers from attempting to traverse Kasson Road, which commuters use to travel to nearby Stockton, Manteca and Modesto, according to the local California highway patrol (CHP) office.

Over the weekend a truck fell into the hole, prompting police to issue a citation to the driver for traveling on the closed road.

Le Nouveau Duluth’s near-endless list of features might have seemed excessive, offering as it did proximity to a beach, valet service, private and buffet dining, live music, a playground and a drive-through option.

“On this occasion, a failure in human moderation practices meant the fake listing remained live on the platform longer than it should have,” Tripadvisor said in a statement. “The listings – including the reviews and photos associated with the listing – are now inactive.”

Known in the clifftop town of Ravello as “the rebel nuns”, Massimiliana Panza and Angela Maria Punnackal left the Santa Chiara monastery on Saturday after receiving a letter signed by Pope Francis telling them they were being relieved of “the obligations of sacred ordination”.

Panza has returned to her family home in Nola, near Naples, where she is temporarily hosting Punnackal, who is originally from India. The two nuns protested against the transfer over fears that the monastery, which along with its adjacent church was built in 1297, would be closed.

“We are disappointed and perplexed by the Vatican’s decision, especially after they kicked these two sisters out only to move two others in.”
