    Timmy confirmed dead
    https://www.theguardian.com/environm...sh-authorities

Timmy the whale has been confirmed dead by Danish authorities two weeks after the beached humpback was transported to the North Sea in a rescue attempt criticised as “pure animal cruelty”.

Denmark’s Environmental Protection Agency said a whale had been found dead on Friday near the small island of Anholt in the Kattegat, a broad strait between Denmark and Sweden, and confirmed it was Timmy on Saturday.

The 10-metre-long calf became a global sensation after it was spotted stranded on Timmendorfer beach, a sandbank in shallow waters off the coast of Germany, nearly two months ago.

Một công mà hai ba chuyện:

    Peacock ‘invasion’ of Italian town
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...arina-tensions

The birds have made their home in the gardens of abandoned properties and perch on rooftops and fences, or peek out from trees. They carefully navigate the traffic, sometimes tapping their beaks on the windows of parked cars after catching their reflection. The Guardian saw one shamelessly leaping over the gate of a block of flats and doing a poo on the entrance steps.

“There are too many of them,” said Francesco, who preferred not to give his surname. “They jump over the wall and on to my balcony, leaving excrement. But the main issue is the mating – the screams are keeping people awake.”

His relative Marco said: “Each time I come to Francesco’s home, I tread on peacock poo outside. It’s unhygienic; the peacocks need to be contained.”

Some say the peacock, a bird of Indian origin, was introduced to the European continent by Alexander the Great, or even before. Their populations are well established in parts of Europe, especially in England and Spain, and although some have been reported in Italy, their presence in Punta Marina is especially notable.

    Blond buffalo nicknamed ‘Donald Trump’
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-eid-sacrifice

A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its distinctive blond tuft has been spared from Eid al-Adha sacrifice after a last-minute government intervention, according to a home ministry official.

The nearly 700kg (1,543lb) animal had already been sold for ritual slaughter when authorities stepped in, citing security concerns after a surge of public interest before Thursday’s festival.

The minister of home affairs, Salahuddin Ahmed, ordered the buffalo be spared, the buyer refunded, and the animal moved to the national zoo in Dhaka. “At the last moment, the decision was taken to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and the unusual level of public interest,” a ministry official said.

Crowds gathered at the farm, with visitors travelling from far afield to see its blond fringe and calm demeanour. The owner of the farm, Ziauddin Mridha, said his younger brother had given the buffalo the Trump nickname after spotting his resemblance to the US president.

Danish autopsy finds Timmy the whale was female

Danish scientists carrying out an autopsy on Timmy, the stranded whale that was found dead on the coast of Anholt, have found a cervix in the carcass, indicating that Timmy was actually female.

Timmy's plight became a major media story in Germany after she was stranded off Timmendorfer Strand, north of Lübeck on the German Baltic coast and was then named after the beach.

The whale has frequently being referred to as "he" in press coverage.

‘Spy turtles’ and ‘spy fish’ being used to monitor Chinese waters, Beijing claims
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-waters-claims

In a post on the Chinese platform WeChat on Friday, the ministry warned that an “invisible secret war” was quietly playing out in the seas around China as foreign agencies were collecting sensitive data “through a variety of new spying devices” to produce underwater maps that pose a “serious threat to our national security”.

Among the espionage techniques being used, it claimed, were large marine animals, including “spy turtles” and “spy fish”, that had been found “attached to sensors” as they swam in Chinese waters.

The animals were “collecting sensitive marine environment data such as water temperature, salinity and ocean currents in real time, and transmitting them overseas via satellite”, it said, without providing specifics about where the animals had been found, or who had equipped them.

China regularly makes claims of espionage efforts taking place in nearby waters including the South China Sea, the East China Sea and the Taiwan strait, which are some of the most militarily sensitive and heavily contested in the world. In 2024, it said it had identified “lighthouses” hidden on the ocean floor that could guide the transit of foreign submarines, and “pre-set the field for battle”.

Cat steals the show during Romeo and Juliet ballet
    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeands...t-ballet-video

A cat decided it was the main character during the final scene of a Romeo and Juliet performance by the Imperial Russian Ballet Company in Izmir, Turkey.

The cat had a lie down, licked itself and played with Romeo's hair as the performers kept going with their performance undeterred while onlookers chuckled in the background.
