US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire as Tehran says it will reopen strait of Hormuz

US president abandons threat for Iran to surrender or face destruction with last-minute intervention led by Pakistan

Hint: oánh trúng đi, đừng oánh lộn nữa, cứ chia 3:7 hay 5:5 "tiền xâu" sòng phẳng là Hormuz mở cửa vĩnh viễn không cần chèo kéo, bắn biếc nữa.

Trump: Gunman held 'strongly anti-Christian' views

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the suspected gunman in Saturday's shooting held "strongly anti-Christian" views.

"If you read his manifesto, he hates Christians that's one thing for sure," he told Fox News, without providing further details but describing the attacker as a "sick guy."

According to the AFP news agency, the suspect's LinkedIn profile listed him as being a member of the "Christian Fellowship" and the "Nerf Club" at the California Institute of Technology, known as Caltech.

"He had a lot of hatred in his heart for quite a while," Trump said.

White House: Trump was target of assassination attempt

The shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on Saturday night was an attempt to "assassinate" US President Donald Trump and other members of his administration, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed on Sunday.

Leavitt wrote on social media that the event had been "hijacked by a depraved crazy person who sought to assassinate the President and kill as many top Trump administration officials as possible."

She described Trump as "truly fearless" and echoed the President's desire that "this political violence needs to end."

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmaker Jamie Raskin, who also attended the dinner, has said he hopes the incident sparks a bipartisan conversation about public safety in the United States.

"We need every politician in the country, every leader in the country, every citizen in the country denouncing political violence across the board," he told CBS News on Sunday, "regardless of where it's coming from."

What do we know about the suspected shooter?

Police arrested a 31-year-old male from California who had been a guest at the Washington Hilton hotel.

The apparent suspect, who was initially taken to hospital for evaluation, has since been questioned and is to be arraigned on Monday on charges of using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon, according to US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro.

The Associated Press reported that he was a master's graduate, tutor and amateur video game developer, based on the LinkedIn profile that appeared to match his name and photo.

He acquired a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering before completing a master's degree in computer science. He had reportedly been working for the past six years as a tutor helping aspiring college students and had developed a video game about molecular chemistry available on the Steam platform.

According to federal campaign finance records, he had donated $25 (€21) to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in 2024.

Trump told a press conference at the White House that the suspect was carrying multiple weapons, and police later confirmed he had been armed with a shotgun, a handgun and several knives.

He said a US Secret Service officer shot during the attack was hit at close range by a "powerful gun," but was protected by a bulletproof vest.

The US president also posted a video on social media appearing to show the suspect running past security officers, who then point their weapons at him.

The Washington Hilton is the same venue where then-president Ronald Reagan was shot 45 years ago, an assassination attempt he survived, though he was severely wounded.

Cali có gì lạ không em?

Có! Không biết cái nồi này chừng nào sôi tràn ra ngoài. Diễn đàn mình có ai phải di tản không?

California declares state of emergency as fire crews race to contain toxic chemical leak

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency as emergency crews raced to contain a toxic chemical leak at a manufacturing facility in Orange County.

A tank containing about 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate, a highly volatile and flammable substance used to make plastic, was at risk of failure, officials warned. Thousands of people are under evacuation orders as a precaution.

On Saturday, officials said the temperature in the tank was higher than previously thought and it was continuing to rise.

Orange County Fire Authority division chief Craig Covey said they were planning for two scenarios: "Does it rupture and spill, or does it blow up?"

The aerospace facility in the town of Garden Grove is about 5 miles (8km) from the Disneyland theme park, which is outside the evacuation zone and is open as normal. The facility is about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

The cause of the failing tank is under investigation, and emergency crews have been spraying the tank with water to try and stabilise the temperature. Officials said an "inoperable valve" had created "additional operational challenges".

On Saturday, Chief Covey said the damaged tank's temperature had risen to 32C (90F) and was increasing by about one degree (Fahrenheit) an hour.

On Friday evening, officials had used drones to measure the external heat levels and believed they had cooled the tank to about 16C (61F).

But when crews were able to get closer and read the tank's gauge, they realised the internal temperature was much higher, Covey said.

He expressed hope that emergency teams could slow the rate of the chemical reactions that were causing the substances to heat up and build pressure inside the tank.

"Letting this thing just fail and blow up is unacceptable to us," Covey said.

Officials were developing "very aggressive plans" for a scenario in which the tank's integrity failed. They were also creating dikes and dams to contain any chemicals if the tank spilled, which Covey said would hopefully prevent any substances from reaching storm drains or the ocean.

Local schools have closed as a precaution and the exits of several major roads have shut to limit access to the area.

Orange County health officer Dr Regina Chinsio-Kwong said anyone who noticed "a fruity and heavy smell" should alert authorities.

"Smelling it doesn't mean you've reached a level that causes symptoms. But we don't want you to smell that," she said.

Dr Chinsio-Kwong said inhaling the vapour could cause respiratory issues, irritation to the eyes, and dizziness. She said those outside the one-mile evacuation zone should be safe.

Covey had warned on Friday that there are "literally two options left: The tank fails and spills... or, two, the tank goes into a thermal runaway and blows up."

He told a news conference on Friday afternoon that if the tank spills, "very bad chemicals" would leak into the parking area surrounding the facility.

"Or two, the tank goes into a thermal runaway and blows up, affecting the tanks that are around it that have fuel or chemicals in them as well."

"This is not precautionary," he said. "This thing is going to fail, and we don't know when... We're doing our best to figure out when or how we can prevent it."

Residents wait at a temporary shelter.

"I was woken up by the sirens going across our streets," Mark Olsen, who was evacuated to the Garden Grove Sports and Recreation Center, told NBC LA on Friday.

"Then I was told that they were evacuating, so I grabbed some stuff and got out of there," Olsen said.

But not knowing what would happen to the chemical plant, or when he could return home, was weighing on him.

    "It's just frustrating," Olsen said.

The facility is operated by GKN Aerospace, a UK-based company that supplies parts for aircraft.

A spokesperson for the company apologised to local residents and said: "The situation remains ongoing and we are fully focused on working with emergency services, specialized hazardous material teams and the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of the local community, our employees and everyone else involved."

Canadian man sending ‘suicide packets’ to people around world
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...e-around-world

Kenneth Law, 60, pleaded guilty to multiples charges of “counselling or aiding suicide”.

Family members were emotional as the court read out each of the charges and Law confirmed his role in the deaths of 14 people, aged 16 to 36, across the province of Ontario. He also admitted sending the lethal substances that caused the death of 79 people in the UK.

Law, a one-time engineer and cook at a Toronto hotel, ran a series of websites that sold lethal chemicals to at-risk people around the world. To evade detection, Law offered other products – including hot sauce – to give the illusion that he operated as an industrial food-prep wholesaler.

The distinct silver packets warned that the use of the product was the sole responsibility of the user. He also sold suicide paraphernalia and gave detailed instructions about how to use the items. Investigators say Law sent 1,209 packages to people in 41 countries before his websites were shut down.

At the time of his arrest, Law had received C$296,981 in his Shopify and PayPal accounts linked to his four companies.
